I know the proper answer to this question is "buy a newer model" but while I'm working on that I would like to try to run some DX9 games like Deus Ex 2 and Command and Conquer RA3 on my notebook if possible. The problem is that the ATI Radeon 7500 doesn't appear to fully support DirectX9. Are there any good tools out there to work around this? I tried 3DAnalyze and my system just crashes.

The Radeon 7500 does not support DirectX 9 at all, actually - it is a DirectX 7 card.

Any game that requires Pixel Shader support will not run on the 7500; it has no pixel shaders.

It still annoys me that Compaq crippled the Evo line with the ATI 7500. Even for 2004 it was obsolete. Are there any software emulation tools for pixel shaders?

You could try 3d analyze. It's been a while since I tried using it. Can't quite remember if that does what you're asking.

edit: oh dear.. missed the mention of it in the first post.

Charles is right. You can't turn a kitty into a lion. The physical limitation which prevent it from going farther. This is same even with new cards. For example GTX 285M is direct 10 card. It cannot be upgrade to DX11.

I think I heard of a program a while ago which would shift certain features that you don't currently have onto the CPU. It would reduce your performance by a hell of a lot but at least you would be able to play it.

Command and Conquer 3 is a pretty intensive game for most notebooks. Only gaming notebooks would run that game at decent resolution and detail.

But you know there is always Starcraft and Warcraft 2? Still the two best RTS games in my opinion.

Maybe try Red Alert 2? That is one of my favorites also.
