    Difference is GPU between Sager 17" w/ T7500,8800mGTX and Gateway P-6831FX w/T7500(user upgraded), 8800mGTS was 7% difference in 3DMark06.

Real gaming stats, 8800mGTS is very fast. Plays every game at max setting except crysis.

If you like the features, go with HP HDX. For portablity go with AW 15". So if you configured either at 1920x1200 resolution, it comes down to if you want something that big or something you want to squint your eyes looking for something. Either way, for gaming, performance diminishes at higher res.

The 8000m GTS and the 8800m GTX seem to have the exact same Core/Shader and Mem clocks. However where they differ is in the amount of shaders, 8800m GTS 64 as opposed to 8800m GTX´s 96 shaders. So there is definitely a difference, especially in Crysis and such games. Well they are faster overall of course.

I would go with the AW, the HDX is absolutely huge and unnecessary. For something that big for that expensive, just get a desktop with double the performance plus ~1000 to spare. Although overpriced, the 15x is the ultimate package in 15" laptop.

You should consider the gateway w/8800 gts save yourself almost 2k from the alienware 15x.

I am curious what the overclocking potential of the 8800 gtx is.

The reason I'm considering the HDX is because my laptop doesn't really move much except between home and school, I don't take it out often short distances but I take it long distances, so it acts more like a desktop replacement. Of course if I went with the HDX I eliminate the possibility of using it as a ... laptop ( I wonder how many desks I would need to take it to class?...).

There's already a 17" Sager with dual 8800m GTX cards, so why wait?

But that's just crazy.. do you really need dual 8800GTX's in a notebook? Is there anything except crysis that one card can't run at max in 1920x1200?

I agree unknown. But that raises another question, how much longer will it be before there are games that cards as powerfull as sli gtx's can't handle?

I don't want to put down enough money for a small house to get a laptop, but I do want to futureproof it for 3 years or so. (i've had my current toshiba tecra m4 tablet for about that long).

One thing I don't like about alienware is the little green man fascia on top of the laptop. Get rid of that and it will be perfect.
