I pre-ordered my w3j yesterday and I was just curious if there were only Oblivion players in here playing on with an x1600? What res and detail settings do you play with? Does it look amazing?

I bought Oblivion last week. It runs about 5fps on my fx 5500. I didn't mind since I was getting my laptop in April.

I'm playing it at 1024X768 with medium graphic settings and it looks nice. I've got an LG P1 (X1600 256MB).

You'll be able to get the graphics settings higher than that.

Well, I can tell you how it ran on my X700 256MB. I played it for an hour and a half last night at 800x600, Medium settings. I got around 55FPS average. I tried XGA but it was a bit too choppy for my tastes. Probably hovered around 33 average. It had too low of a minimum framerate. At SVGA, the minimum was around 28 or so, which is fine. Can't always base a card off of 'average framerate' - the minimum is more important sometimes, at least to me.

I Play with 1280x800 - HDR is on. Soft Shaddows, Reflections, Maximum View and Grass distance. No AA. Basically everything high and it runs very smoothly on my machine. ... wish i had 6.3 Catalyst drivers for my lappy, but they doesn't seem to work.

    LG S1. Core Duo 2.0Ghz
    1024 Mb Ram
    256 Mb Mobility Radeon x1600, (512Mb Hypermemory)

Didn't check ther framerate yet, didn't need to cuz it was running very smoothly. This Laptop scored 3800 something in 3D-Mark 05 without any tweaks.

I'll have to double check if my AA is on or not (I seem to think it is). I found it a little choppy at 1280X800, but that could be due to all of the other background programs that LG has installed on the computer.

Reading the Oblivion thread I would think that AA is on and that is why it was somewhat choppy at 1280?

i highly doubt that the x1600 can play oblivion with HDR and that high of a resolution...

I play at native (1280X800) on my S96J with X1600 at stock. Mostly medium to high settings. No grass though, I hate that stupid grass generation effect and it eats up GPU. Sometimes the minimum frame rate dips below acceptable levels. But I don't play it for gameplay, I play it for the pretty :)

I've tried it at 1280x800, most settings to the max (distances stuff) except for grass (0%) and shadow (40-50%). It did get choppy when there was a lot of shiny stuff, but barely playable. Personally, I use 2xAA and Bloom for a little better appearance to me and the framerates rarely dip too low.

I might take out Bloom and/or HDR and see how grass does...but grass usually kills my fps.

Yeah, turning off grass will get you a huge boost in performance. In fact, I wanna meet the clown at Bethesda who thought it'd be a good idea to make the grass in Oblivion like the way it is. Cause it's not a good idea.

I used to play Oblivion on my S96J. Grass is definitely ridiculous... toggling it off gave me like a 15 fps boost. I switched to Bloom + 4xAA, still bearable, and much prettier than with HDR + no AA. Shadows also off. Native res at 1280x800.
This game eats GPUs for breakfast.
