This has simply turned into "EA vs valve, who do you prefer?", but with no one actually wanting to ask it.

So, I'm just gonna cut out the waffle and just ask the question that everyone seems to want to answer so badly.

EA vs valve, who do you prefer?

Whoever publishes the games that I want to play. So far Valve is losing for me since I haven't seen anything worthy of mentioning from them in years.

I don't care about Dota 2, l4D2 was the biggest waste of money I've spent on a game in years, and Portal 2 was just pure hype.

I at least enjoyed playing Crysis 2 and I still thought at day 1 release, Crysis 2 was the best looking game released in 2011 until Witcher 2 arrived. The only squad based online FPS game I play is from EA, BC2. NFS Shift 2 was fun. Dragon Age: Origins is still better than any game I've played from Valve, I liked HL2 but not as much as some of the die hard, Valve fans. DA2 while disappointing in comparison to Origin, was still more fun than other RPG games I've tried. Witcher 2 takes the cake, but that's just an amazing game. ME2 was thrilling for a bit until the cinematic movie watching gamestyle got old. But I'll still give ME3 a try. I'll wait for the reviews on BC3.

So for me, EA easily takes the cake over Valve. The only game I actually really liked from Valve is TF2 and they trashed that game, haven't touched it in nearly 2 years after they started doing stupid crap.

I can say for sure that I prefer Valve's digital distribution platforms above all else.

As far as intellectual properties go, I have a slight preference towards Valve, but EA is close behind.

AS much as I agree with you that this has turned into a Valve vs EA debate; I will say they cannot be compared:

Valve is a big name Developer, EA is a big name Publisher.

The above poster is comparing Valve developed games to games developed by Crytek, EA, Bioware, etc... It is not fair; unless your saying Valve is worthy enough to be compared to a dozen devs at once. My point being, your giving credit to EA for games they did not even develop (with the exception of inhouse devs like DICE and Bioware etc.).
A more fair comparison would be: Valve vs Crytek, Valve vs Bioware, Valve vs DICE. [devs vs devs].

This is why I argue you cannot compare STEAM to Origin.
STEAM is the exclusive download medium for Valve developed games, but they also offer games developed and published by other companies.
Origin ONLY offers games Published by EA [that's it]; developers include both inhouse and 3rd party.

Another strange fact, EA is the exclusive PUBLISHER for Valve games for PC retail, Xbox 360 and PS3 [not for direct download; STEAM has that]. To bash Valve, you mind as well bash EA while your at it.
