It has been nearly a month since I upgraded to a 7970M from the 6990M and with shock I have to admit I have not played a single game on it.

Immediately prior to upgrading I played BF3 which disappointed me as it was so hyped(short/console exp/easy/ok graphics) on the 6990M along with Sup Com 2 which was ok however nothing else seems to be showing up on my radar.

Does anyone know of any decent new RTS and or FPS I can get my teeth into before Far Cry 3, Crysis 3 and C&C Generals 2 release. I don't want to see this card not used for another 6 months lol. I am a bit of a old school gamer in that I have never been able to get in MMORPG's and other games which involve single character control and development nor quick clicking strategy like Starcraft, although I did very much like the homeworld series which involved lots of clicking and keyboard control and general micro management :)

I did enjoy all the crysis games, many traditional base building RTS games although I don't like Age Empires 3. 2 is a blast though. Fear series I enjoyed quite alot. Mass effect 1 I played and didn't like along with Bioshock 1.

    Any recommendations? :D

They're not first person, but Max Payne 3 (and the other two in the series if you've not played them already) and Spec Ops: The Line are pretty good.

    Frostbite 2 = OK graphics?

    Ch-ch-check yourself dude!

Not the BIGGEST fan of BF3 but graphics were excellent.

Max Payne 3 is brilliant, despite being a port it works fine. Gun play is probably the best I have seen in recent years too. Excellent story line especially if you have played the earlier two.

    Highly recommended.

I'm also not the biggest fan of BF3, but the graphics really are stellar.

I've bought Shogun 2 and the campaign DLCs, but not played yet. Was told if I put aside some time for it, I won't regret it. Over past months, I keep seeing Shogun 2 deals I couldn't pass up.

The Walking Dead is awesome. I've only finished episode 1 but I've enjoyed it a lot...but I'm a big fan of the comic and TV show

Hmm, I'm not a RTS fan but I know that the first expansion pack to Civilization V came out not too long ago, - Gods and Kings, - and it seems like the overall community reaction is mostly favorable.

    Might and Magic Heroes VI?

I know what you mean about dry spells though... seems like some months I have a ton of stuff to play on the PC, and other months I'm mostly on the consoles. It all depends on what's available. Right now I'm mostly on my PS3... the only games I play on the laptop are Diablo 3 and PSO2.

Walking Dead is decent, but I dislike having to wait between episodes, and then I also have vivid memories of SiN Episodes, where only one came out and the rest were cancelled. I never did find out how the story ended or what-not. Hopefully that won't be the case here.

Might and Magic Heroes VI is bug ridden and has the always online DRM by ubisoft ._. It even started using the UPlay thing which is now similar to that Games for Windows Live thing

It doesn't even feel like a past heroes game. It's more who can mass up better than being strategic :(

Oh, sorry to hear that :( I guess I was hoping it'd be as good as previous Heroes of Might and Magic games that I remember... regrettable that it seems to have gone downhill since then.

Baka, what are your thoughts on Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2? It's on Steam sale, I was wondering if I should get it...

    +1

Btw bf3 has real good graphics, the problem is the action is so paced, you wind up not appreciating graphics anymore.. Still second to best game of 2011 imho.

The graphics in BF3 were pretty good but I was expecting even better as the game was I feel overhyped. The 6990M at stock clocks and high cpu OC was practically able to max the game out fluidly at 1080p which it had no right doing :p at least to the point where now I have no temptation to reinstall it and try it with the 7970M.

Lately, all Ive been playing is Command & Conquer 3 with the Tiberium Essence 1.51 Beta. Who needs a 2011 / 2012 RTS when this is so great!

I'm actually really enjoying Max Payne 3. Didn't care much for the first two, but this one is pretty decent so far. Probably because for the most part I can watch an animated movie with an occasional put the dot on someone's head and click the mouse.

And BF3 too. As much as I complain, it keeps me coming back for more.

Hell, my backlog of games is so immense, I could probably play for the next ten years with no new releases and be fine.

You will want to check this out too, I have about 20 different CNC3 Mods installed and end up playing the campaign again for each one due to how different it makes gameplay.

Since you mentioned using Steam, you will want to edit your shortcut link to have a -ui at the end and use that to run all Mods. I use Desura to download and install though.

That Mod brings back so many of my Tiberian Sun favourites including those MLRS, I'm guessing you played TS back in the day too. One Mod I like that isn't on the list in the link is Crossfire, the guy made support powers free, added a Robot faction and GDI has some buildings that take up half of the screen lol. Its a great Mod but a bit OP for the moment.
