I've been using msiab w rtss for gaming onscreen stats for a while but out of the blue about a week ago I get a constant attack of windows saying the "hook" is not working etc and then another saying rtss crashed. Once I click ok they just come back, only after I exit out of msiab does it stop. If I start up msiab it starts all over, so uninstall rtss and msiab works fine. I've searched the internet but all I get is "make sure everything is up to date" etc type stuff. I didn't change drivers at all before or after this started happening. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest I could find which is 4.6.2, still the same, kinda a bummer. Anyone encounter this an get it working?

Have you tried downloading latest RTSS package separately?
I got the same messages after upgrading to 1909 but OSD was working. Backup your settings files of MSI AB and then completely uninstall using Revo or Wise Program uninstaller. -
Yeah I did try that and reinstalled separately. I also just uninstalled msiab/rtss using revo pro and reinstalled the latest msiab/rtss package I could find 4.6.2. I noticed that when I don't have anything setup for OSD it doesn't show the crash though, guess rtss isn't used otherwise or the error I'm getting is tied to the OSD.
Once I click ok or close program it just keeps cycling again and again. Like I said once I don't have any osd metrics specified it stops and msiab runs just fine. This just came out of nowhere, all of it was working fine for months, I may try an older version I have and get back.Attached Files:

No av dude never had any problems, 3rd party firewall that asks permission for every program. I have had maybe 3-4 problems over 5+ years which I just used bleepingcomputer stuff to get rid of. The way I do things now I'm modular and the OS can be reinstalled quickly, portable programs rock lol. Idk I'll try that and keep with it, it's really only important for new games getting them to 60fps or as close as possible, and temps but never had anything out of the ordinary in anything there really. Fraps still works on most games, I don't think it works with vulcan but afaik I've never used vulcan in a game, heard it's better for rdr2 though but that has dx11 compatibility so not sure have to wait and see on that.
Edit: AND I use it for light OC, 135, 200. but that's just msiab. that oc didn't change my firestrike score at all though lolVasudev likes this. -
maybe zonealarm blocking it checking online is most I can think of but I don't think that would break it and it was fine b4, idk maybe i did change nvidia drivers in there somewhere I'll reinstall and get back.

Still does the same thing almost a year later. Latest MSIAB from their website 462 and a separate install of the RSS 723, the minute I start assigning OSD parameters in MSIAB and click apply etc the server crashing messages show up. To be clear I am NOT USING WIN10, I'm on Win7 U SP1. I really don't have too much of a need for any of it since I do not OC and never had any problems with overheating or performance. The only reason I'm trying to use it again is that lately I've had lockups and crashing in two games specifically. 1. Metro Exodus, only when I alt-tab out to use the bathroom etc does it lock up my whole computer and I have to restart the whole thing. 2. The Hunter COW works fine but if I pause it, not alt-tab, to do some real world short task, when I come back it has a Nvidia driver crash which in turn crashes the game. Both games work fine when I'm in them. I think in game 2 it may actually be overheating but want to get some onscreen readings.

No I never install that. Thehunter COW is somewhat buggy game though but not overly hard on my system as I get 1080/60 vsync, on medium settings(still looks amazing btw def a reason to get larger higher def screen and rtx card). I do usually run a trainer to cut grind out of games so I think this has something to do with it, but I think the overwhelming reason is just a buggy game. I'm on latest nvidia drivers 452.xxx.
--Metro Exodus is also a notoriously buggy game, all of them in that series have been buggy for me. I was also using trainer there so that also may be a reason for it as well who knows. I just can't remember a time when a game locks up my whole computer to where even alt-tab-del is locked up and forces me to manually restart it. Mouse even locks up crazy.
I still use Fraps where it still works so I can get an fps but ofc it's nice to get all the other stuff that MSIAB will give you while in game. Any recommendations for similar to MSIAB/RTSS onscreen data?Vasudev likes this. -
I had the same problem years ago...solution install Windows again and used comodo free firewall to block and allow programs and make even the cia sweat whilst hacking a firewall

Its too verbose and has less settings than MSI AB/RTSS.hertzian56 likes this. -

Anyways I found a solution of going to a legacy version of the msiab/rtss, guru3d has those below the latest version dl page. Tried 4.60, 4.2, same problem BUT version 4.0 works fine albeit not as good onscreen options afa font size and color but at least it works. The only other difference I noticed was that this time RTSS.exe came up as asking for internet access via zonealarm. This didn't happen with the newer versions, maybe it just gets upset and crashes if it doesn't have internet access?.
--I did update metro exodus to the latest version and it has not crashed/locked up my pc since then so it was probably that. Thehunter COW I also have the latest patch and put it on an external ssd to mitigate heat from the internal HDD I had it on before. Stable 85C 99% for 980m mostly 60 but dips to low 50fps sometimes 1080p ssao on, fxaa on, no aaf, all others medium/off/low. Still crashes from time to time though, did that at 900p as well, buggy game but amazing relaxing beautiful if you're into slow games, INFRA is similar but non-hunting and much smaller game. Has non-hunting missions nothing to write home about but I'm an explorer with some hunting, recommended.Vasudev likes this. -
Ah dude don't say that....i had my computer decked out and had to reinstall Windows...i wish I had figured that back when
-
On thehunter cow I dropped it down to 900p, tweaked some nvidia control panel settings and played for hours yesterday no crashes. Temps maybe 2-7c lower here and there but gpu utilization went way down from 99 to 82. It's still considered a very buggy game by the community though. Wish it was easier to mod as the world maps are huge, like each one of the 7-8 preserve maps are GTAV size imo, and could have treasure hunts, fishing, horror stories, horses/motorcycles(all it has for getting around is an atv), mountain climbing/spelunking in some maps, racing, campfires etc etc -
Anybody having problems with Rivatuner statistics server in msiab?
