Just thought I would see how much interest this game has out there.
Deagle got me a copy and I have been playing it and find it pretty fun so far. I was never super heavy into minecraft but did enjoy it off and on, Terrarria the game that is most similar to Starbound I actually did not care for at all.
I guess I like this one because there seems to be so much to find/do. You do not have one generated world you have hundreds/thousands of worlds and what looks like tons of enemies and weapons and such.
Being in still Alpha I think it has a lot of promise, may try to start up a YouTube series on it soon just so people can follow along with the adventure of starting a new guy and trying to get to end game.
I started as a noob on a planet with acid rain and died instantly and had it so hard, then when I got to a random planet and found a ton of good resources and a legendary weapon it went EZ mode for a while, then hit the next sector and its back to being hard again.
The random/dynamic nature of the game I find very entertaining.
The other game I am playing regularly is Hearthstone Beta and I am looking at Rust and Dayz but do not have quite as much interest in those games or the time for them.

I was gonna play it but in the beginning there were just too many issues with the version they had out. Some weapons were overpowered so you never knew if the games was at the difficulty level you encountered. Then there was the wipes that happened now and then, that killed your character and everything you built which meant you had to start all over again.
The next patch thats happening any time now will commence the final wipe, so maybe I will start playing after that. It depends on how far they come with the Beta. I dont want to play a game thats too far from finished either. But its looking pretty bright, since I do think they have come a long way.
I was a big fan of terraria and this game looks pretty similar, but bigger.
I also made a thread about the Starbound Beta, but there was extremely little activity there so I have to question if there are many fans of these games... -

Got it a few days ago, but I'll probably wait until they stop having to wipe saves before really getting into it. I tried Terraria, but it didn't have anything in it that I was looking forward to crafting/finding. It's already got a good amount of modding activity and I think some of the mods got implemented in the last patch too.
The game's player population seems to have dropped a bit since its first few weeks, but I think it was because of DayZ's and Rust's release. -
There was 2 core developers in Terraria. The one who did most of the work did not carry on with the Starbound project but instead worked on new patches for Terraria (1.1 and 1.2). There is suppose to be new bosses, new biomes and new weapons on those patches which I havent played yet, so its tempting to go back and play again.
I will also get Starbound 100%. It looks awesome. But sadly have to wait until its done.
They still keep adding stuff and working on bugs. This was just put out which will make its way to the patch releasing this week. Many new weapons included biological weapons. Neat

A big patch with the final wipe is due very soon, that would be a good time to start.
I played enough to get my feet wet and understand the game, so probably will wait for that patch to hit as well and maybe kick off a series on a new character post patch.Cloudfire likes this. -

I haven't seen anything in twitch videos, trailers, etc to indicate anything about Starbound that would be kid inappropriate aside from violence against pixels.
As for the last terraria update, it was basically a sequel. Tons of new content added, and the bosses are quite hard. Whereas before in Hardmode you pretty much had your options narrowed down in terms of what weapons to use, you can now be a melee, magic, or projectile user and be able to progress. -

As in difficulty, can depend. Some environmental hazards could kill you like acid rain, acid puddles, meteor showers but you can find the kids a planet that does not have those and they should be pretty safe.
Also each "sector" in the galaxy represents the "level" for that area so say Alpha is lvl 1, Beta is lvl 2. If you toss your kids character some lvl 3 gear and let him play in Alpha sector he would be all but invincible.
On top of that there are mods and things, so I am sure you can defeat anything else that would be in the way like hunger and such. So yeah if you want to make it work you can for sure.
I just found last night that this game has "wiring" similar to how minecraft had redstone... This has me pretty excited lol, even though it is not as developed yet it shares a lot of the same concepts and I know it will expand.
The best part is the wiring does not require you to psychically build wires on the same plane as your other materials its like on its own layer in the game making it all about the function and idea not about "can I fit this in or hide my wire" -
Looks like the last update to wipe saves occurred. Can anyone with the game confirm?
