I'm getting 25 KBPS right now downloading skyrim, and I really don't want to wait 30 hours...

I would say that it is your network, but just as a hypothesis, I think you should restart your computer.

If that does not work, restart your modem and router.

If that does not work, contact Steam and ask them.

if that does not work, hmmmm.

Everybody and their sister is probably downloading steam games today. I wouldn't be too much in a hurry to play.

Steam is just overloaded probably. I am still trying to do yerterday's achievement, but Gangwars can't start since it is "not available".

I'm getting pings of 20 in game, but that isn't necessarily linear with download rates. I'll run a speedtest.net to see where the problem lies..

As others say it may just be an increase in traffic which is slowing down the service. That said I didn't notice any sudden slowdowns when I was downloading games from Steam, I was averaging around 500kb/s-1MB/s download rate today.

Must be Pennsylvania region? I'll check their server list, but I live in texas and am used to amazing download rates on steroids, and pings of 12. :3 I'm too spoiled, but this really is maddening.

EDIT: Changing my download region from texas to philadelphia. Hopefully this helps.

It did help, but rates fluctuate from 300 to 30..

Switched from Philadelphia to DC, rates are at 500KBPS. :D

Yeah, switching your download region can help, just keep trying different ones until you get a decent speed.

The trick is sometimes to not only switch local download region but continent entirely.

Servers probably under heavier load than normal due to the winter sales and events.

People buying discounted games and others (like myself) installing games they already own to do the achievements.

Usually for me switching a server does not help much, but luckily m d/l speeds seem to be pretty good I can get 2-3mb/s most of the time.
