'Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game currently under development by Bethesda Game Studios.[5][7] It will be the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned the spin-offs Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. The setting of Fallout 3 will take place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world.[8] The game will be released in North America on October 28, 2008, in Europe on October 31, 2008, and in Japan on December 4, 2008.[4][3] Release dates for other regions have yet to be officially announced.' Just thought i start a thread for anticipating the release of fall out 3. I personally went down to gamestop today and pre ordered a copy. its very close to its release and so far looks like a great game. We're very close to its release date on October 28th!
Ive never played the previous fallout series but ive only heard great things about its previous games and so naturally i have some pretty high expectations.

The trailer look awesome. It looks and feel like a apocalyptic version of mass effect with more character and weapon customizations and a bigger and more interesting world.

This is what impress me most about this game. Since i havent played the previous series, this is all new to me, but man, you get to stop time andpicking off individual body parts. Like blow off a creatures leg and it cant jump to attack you! Or shoot off a gunners arm! It'll be interesting to see how player skill increases work to increase the chance of pin point precision shots in combat and form advantageous combat strategy. Sounds like a deep and interesting system for newbies like me and a familiar come back for veterans.

From the Makers of Oblivion
'Bethesda Softworks stated it would be working on Fallout 3 in July 2004,[22] but principal development did not begin until after The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was completed.[23] Bethesda Softworks has announced their intention to make Fallout 3 similar to the previous two games, focusing on non-linear gameplay, a good story, and black comedy. Bethesda has also stated the game will be rated M for mature, and will have the same sort of adult themes, violence, and depravity that are characteristic of the Fallout series.' (Wikipedia)
From the same developers who understand how an open world rpg should work! Will we get a second top notch title from them?!! And what can we expect?
If it is the same developers I believe we will see a very expandable games. Here are some hopeful signs.
Will there be any downloadable content?
Downloadable content will be available for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms. There will be no downloadable content for PlayStation 3.
The DLC will be substantial, the equivalent of the Knights of the Nine addon for Oblivion, with many hours of gameplay, as opposed to one-off things like items or a hangout. (source: Fallout 3 FAQ)
The first downloadable content will be available quickly after the game's launch and will amount to ca. 7 hours of gameplay
We'll probably need to pay for it unless they do a whole free first release thing like they did with mass effect. Im also praying that fallout 3 will let you mod in the elder scrolls tradition. Imagine how interesting gameplay will get!

There is only a limited system requirement profile out here This game might not be as steep in hardware as we previously thought.
I think this will be a great game, and a possible game of the year title!

i just wacthed all 5 videos and the game looks sweet i would be play it. hope my laptop can handle it. after school is out i am building a desktop again
-
yeh, it'll be a terrible shame to play this game on watered down graphics. It just looks so awesome @ max settings in the videos. But I think an overclocked 8600m gt is a good bet @ running this game close to max settings @1200x800.

That last screenie the OP posted just made my day.
I put a deposit down on the CE a month ago. Can't wait! -
I am too. I actually downloaded Fallout 1 and 2 and just about to finish Fallout 2. If Fallout 3 is anything like the previous Fallout games but in 3D, it would be great.
The fact that this is done by the same people by Oblivion is awesome as I love Oblivion (got addicted the game).
I am really hoping there is a good stealth aspect to the game. Would be fun to sneak up behind a mutant and cripple him -
Reserved my copy the other day at BestBuy and got me a very handy Nuka Cola botle opener.
Thanks Bethesda
The game does look awesome, let's hope it does not dissapoint. -
im excited for this game and farcry 2. they both look amazing, but im looking forward to this the most. it looks really awesome. i better be able to play it on at least medium
-
I love how this game will feel like a shooter but contains a very tactically deep combat system. Ive always felt bored with tradition fps like doom 3 and unreal 2 cause theres nothing going on but aiming and pressing the mouse trigger.
From the videos it looks like you'll be able to do some gears of war notch hiding and dodging moves. Im definitely excited about the combat aspect!
Wonder what the story will be. Who will be the villain this time! -
The dog is a great addition also, gives it a twist on the genre
-
i am going to put down my money for the game tomorrow at game stop or bb
-
i wish we knew the system requirements. hopefully its similar to Oblivion
-
They have said that it will be as demanding as Oblivion was during its time.
-
Im looking forward to this game a hell of a lot. Should be amazing. Oblivion was good but I really couldnt get properly into it. I think all the guns and storyline of Fallout is more suited for me
Jus hope I can run it very nicely on my Lappy
-
Yeah - I'm really looking forward to Fallout 3! But I think I'm gonna play it on my Xbox360 instead of my notebook. It'll be very well optimized and I'm sure it plays great with a joypad.
-
am up for the game, screw university and its exams, btw hopefully my laptop can run it (guess not) maybe it will be play on my desktop (still not powerful, hd3650 gddr3)
-
they stated that it will be Close to Crysis Hardware-Per-Performance.
-
-
The cpu requirement isnt that bad though: recommended 3.2 ghz single core. -
-
Am I looking forward to this game? Hell yeah! I played parts 1 and 2 when they were released (I'm old), and enjoyed them a great deal. Add to that that I've never played a game as much as Oblivion, and you'll see why this new one is a winner for sure. I love open world games with alot of character customization.
I'm not that impressed with the engine though (from what we've seen so far). It doesn't look nearly good enough to me to be "as demanding as Oblivion was during its time" (which was véry demanding). -
-
this might be a good game by itself but it's not fallout. anyone who's played the original fallout 1 & 2 knows this. this is a game with a post-apocalyptic setting trying to pass as fallout but the gameplay bears no resemblance to the original.
-
Edit
That didn't work

Not fond of the switch from isometric to 3D. You see this with a number of games now, the most recent being the failed Hellgate:London. Turning a game into an FPS typically gets claimed as a way it is being "modernized." But 3D FPS's are ancient by this time too. The only extra a game gets by becoming an FPS is possibly a different set, but no greater number, of players.
But the Fallouts, much like the Diablos that gave rise to Hellgate, weren't FPS games and didn't suffer for it. They are some of the best loved and most highly regarded games ever put out.
People liked the isometric view, just like they liked it in Baldur's Gate, X-Com, and other huge strategy/RPG successes.
FPS games have a different appeal than isometric, top-down view games. I'm skeptical that people who loved the original Fallouts will consider this FPS version an improvement. I'm skeptical Bethesda will make the game world as vibrant and beautiful as they would be able to do if it were isometric instead.
I wish they wouldn't have messed with a good thing. I don't think the FPS is adding; I think it's subtracting. -
I see this game as a reiteration of mass effect on a grander scale. The problem I always felt missing from fps-rpg hybrids is that they tend to focus alot of the shooting aspects and not enough on the story playing.
But this game looks and feels different from the generic fps-rpg hybrids out there. The open ended world for instance brings this game closer to oblivion, which i actually liked expect for the fact that it was too mythical/fantasy for me. Heavy character customization, world interaction and multiple story line progressions should appeal to people who liked the witcher. The fact that you'll encounter archetype doom world scenarios and futuristic weapons could also bring sci-fi and modern shooter fans into the fold.
i dont see fall out 3 as a marked attempt to improve the previous fallout games. Those games were classic and this new game doesnt try to hold a candle up to that standard. With games like baldur's gate and the previous fallout series, i always felt like the puppeteer trying to unravel a story from the top down perspective.
What i feel that bethsoft has tried to do is redefine the classic rpg experience and move it towards a even more character centered play style. I guess if you want the traditional rpg experience you should look at bioware's dragon age or something. -

I'm just hoping the mod community can add to Fallout 3 like they did to Oblivion.

man we have some hardcore rpg players here. I understand its a far stretch to go from the playing styles of the first and seconds games to the fps feel of the third. But isnt the story and the familiar elements enough to make old fans to give this a shot? I think it would be exciting to from from a different perspective. At least if I was a true fan, I'll play this game just to bring back some rocking fallout memories.
-
And word on what the DRM for the PC version is going to be like? This has already turned me off on a few recent PC releases and I'm really looking forward to this one.

As to it being not supposed to be a Diablo clone, it was made by the guys who made Diablo and they took no small pains to point it out and to make a lot of the design similar. In pre-release interviews they stressed this a great deal. It's clearly an attempt to recreate the Diablo magic and bring back the same customer base.
Graphics are nice of course. But they don't a lasting game make. As noted above, I generally far prefer what is done with graphics in non-FPS games.
Most importantly, games lose a lot when they change from being one style to another. Their identity, for one thing. And that stylistic change seems to always go from isometric top down view to FPS. I tend not to like the result and the games tend not to do well, and I'd say it's by no accident. You're simply giving the customer a different experience, not necessarily a better or even equal one. One might ask then, Why bother? Going FPS is not an improvement, but a change of styles. And after a style has been proven to work and be beloved by gamers for a particular franchise, changing the style and feel of gameplay is a big daffy gamble to say the least. That change bolloxed up the near imortally great X-Com UFO, didn't appear to help Hellgate and certainly chased away some customers(I get nauseous playing FPS's myself, and also tend to find them too twitchy), and perhaps soon Fallout 3 as well.
Let's hope not. Every "improvement" doesn't in fact have to be a downgrade. But it's clear that many of those "improvements" are indeed a downgrade and strip the sequels of the charm and flavor of the originals. -
It seems close to self-contradictory.
I think we can hope for, and probably get, something of the same mood and the same dark humor(although they say that some of that will be cut back on a bit too). A great deal of the rest of it we have been explicitly told we will not get. Whether you like what you get in exchange is up to you. It's definitely not what I signed up for when I fell in love with the series, though.
I don't say anyone else shouldn't be excited about this upcoming game. This is just my personal take on it. I feel the game is being "improved" or "broadened" in a way that actually detracts from it and makes it far more like everything else we're already seeing out there. Like we really need another FPS? I absolutely loved the mechanics, look, and feel of the originals, and will miss them. -
joshthor said: ↑im asumming he is saying he doesnt like the style of it, as they are both top view. pretty easy to figure out what view they are.Click to expand...
I say fine to that, to each his own. But that it's not much of a background and familiarity with the product from which to see just what we're losing. It's simply a preference for a style of gameplay he personally finds more immersive and I don't. So Wiley sees as an improvement something I do not, and doesn't have the experience with the original to really be all that great a judge of the matter, at least as to this particular title.
Just my take on things, no offense Wiley. You just like FPS's better. I can dig it, but I never would have bought the original Fallouts if I felt the same way, and I'm sure a pretty fair number of others feel the same and don't wish the originals were FPS's to "make them more character-driven."
I think you mistake a certain kind of feeling of physical immersion for how a story is handled, and you are confusing two subjects there. -
Hell yeah!! Cant wait for it to come out
Anyone else looking forward to FALLOUT 3?
