It's finally being released on Halloween. From what I've seen the game looks incredible. (as well it should, the games been in production long enough)![]()

Yeah, it does really look like a sweet game. Such a shame that I don't have a rig to play it on. So, in a sense, I am not really looking forward to it.
-
Preordered it about a week ago. I am anxiously awaiting it!!!
-
Playing beta right now, not sure what to comment of it just yet. It's very very very very Diablo-like.
-
-
I'm playing at 1680x1050 resolution and everything at medium settings on a Pentium M 1.86ghz, 2gb of RAM and an x700 GPU.
-
What type of game Hellgate: London is? MMO? Single player game with online multiplayer option?
-
It's a 3rd person/1st person MMORPG+MMOFPS.
It's a psuedo-FPS with RPG-like factors, but players can change views from 3rd to 1st person if needed. -
Yea this is my #1 game im looking forward to. Should be awesome.
-
Nevertheless, being a huge Diablo fan in addition to living in London does make Hellgate London look extremely promising. I'll wait until I read a few reviews before I'll start considering shelling out £200 on a dell desktop and £300 on a graphics card (probably also need to shell out more to buy meself a bigger desk).
Coriolis, if you don't mind, post impressions you have of the game. How does it compare to Diablo? Are the attacks as 'huge' as they were in D2? Good equipment? Great multiplayer??
I always loved the character development of Diablo 2. Whenever I reached level 12, 18, etc. I always felt hugely rewarded as I'd suddenly gain this new skill that will pwn all the enemies I was having trouble with. Is the character development of Hellgate similar? -
Unfortunately, I'm on an NDA where I can't discuss details of it besides the general information that is publicly avaliable.
Character development is very similiar, if not the exact same in terms of character stats and character skills. Equipment has been the same 'type' as in Diablo 2 - there are even some Easter Eggs(*cough* Wirt). No comment on multi-player yet, didn't get that far, I'm casually beta testing....if that exists -
Thanks for answering coriolis
I just checked the game (yeah I've heard of its name numerous time), the graphic is pretty, and some boss monsters are huge!! Though the game doesn't appeal to me much cuz I don't like farming/training characters anymore. -
Wirt is in this game?? Have the original creators of Diablo defected from Blizzard to EA Games or something?
-
-
Pretty much, majority of Blizzard North, who were responsible for Diablo and Diablo 2 left and formed Flagship Studios, with HG:L being their first release. -
coriolis from your beta play experience do you feel the fun factor is there? Is there any need to go crazy on charcter leveling? The combination of RPG/FPS is nice but down to the road is it just another "My level bigger than yours and with ubber equipment I pawnz everyone" kind of thing? To be honest I only found Guild War was fun to me (ironically another group of former Blizzard employee).
-
Coriolis, I'm uncertain if you've been to London before, but have you noticed any London landmarks? I have seen a few screenshots of Holborn and Covent Garden tube stations, are those gameplay locations in game? How about locations such as St. Paul's cathedral, London Eye, Tower of London, Trafalgar Sq. etc? I don't suppose you are allowed to post screenshots of in-game locations?
-
It's fun right now cause I'm discovering the game just a bit, and killing undead in mass is always fun, especially being melee and having splash range
Leveling is quite important as, more level = more stats/skills obviously.
I haven't been to London, but as for landmarks...
-
I pre-ordered a copy on friday and now I'm patiently awaiting my beta invite.
-
I was going to do the beta but after finding out the file is 3.7GB I'm not so sure lol.
-
I'm really excited about this game. I always liked Diablo for the story but the game play was good, too. I think the only game that'll be better than this is Diablo III
-
Don't get your hopes up, this is essentially diablo 3.
-
Ok, got my pre-order in. C'mon Halloween!

I think I would get bored rather fast with it. if you want a new diablo this is your thing, but for somebody more used to the RPG side of things with alot of varity in games and items and things it looks to repetitive. Shoot shoot, get X item wich looks and shoots/slashes just like the last item but with a new number in the attack power spot :/
The concept is there but the ingame footage I have seen makes the game not look so good.
However its one of those things that I wont judge too strong untill more hands on reviews are out there and the game is released.
I like phantasy star online, one of the games I got addicted to the most in the day, this game seems to share alot of the same "concepts" so it may appeal to me in the end just depending on how it all lays out. -
-
What I really hope is that it has a similar party system to D2, just press P and invite pples
I noticed how some of the skill sets are remarkably similar to D2 skill sets... I also hope its as good as D2 Classic instead of LoD...
-
The skill trees are very very similar. Strikenely so. And yea, the invite system is somewhat similar, also adds an 'auto-party' feature, WoW-like.
-
I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to it so much, but it is a game that is in my huge queue of games to play this year.
-
I started the beta last night--so far I'm excited about it.
FYI, I can run it with high settings in DX9 (no anti-aliasing, 1680x1050) or with medium settings in DX10 (no anti-aliasing, 1680x1050). Graphics card is an 8600M GT GDDR3. I did have to open it in XP SP2 compatibility mode to get it running. -
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
what do you do in the game?
-
Kill hordes of demons
-
Boooooo, it's being patched, i hate the slowness of the patching download
-
The demo is coming this Friday!
"And for gamers who can't wait until Halloween to get their Demon-slaying on, Flagship Studios is releasing a singleplayer demo this Friday, October 19th.
The singleplayer demo represents just a small taste of the Hellgate: London experience. Gamers can choose from two of the game's six character classes: the Blademaster, a master of swordplay and action-packed melee combat, or the Marksman, a cool, calculating, long-range specialist.
In the demo, these heroes are able to battle through a small handful of storyline and side quests as they adventure through the streets and tunnels around London's Holborn Station." -

Im not really into this game much, but I will definitly want to play the demo. its going to be the chaos of UT3 all over again probably will everybody swamping servers.
Id just go torrent it was faster and easier but both my torrent downloads for UT3 and CoD4 seemed to have been semi corrupted and I had to get them from the web. So dont know if I want to chance it again. -
Not sure if I like this game or not but will try the demo as well.
I'll probably getbot it on gamespot. The last few demos (fear, timeshift, COD4, UT3) I getbot on gamespot gives me more than 800 kb/s all the time.
-
Ugh, that demo was bad :/ I had high hopes for the game despite alot of people yelling how bad it is, but it really doesn't do much for me. And I love the Diablo series. And the graphics...ugh.

much more information has been released about Hellgate London and how it works for beta, final release, subscriber benefits, and special features.
http://www.hellgatelondon.com/underground/subscribers-and-patch-0
here are some excerpts answering questions that have come up in this gaming forum about the game.
------------------------------------------------------
regarding beta updates:
What this means is that we are, at a MINIMUM, 2 weeks further down the road on the game than the testers see. Commonly, this time gap can be upwards of 4 weeks. We push hot fixes as quickly as possible, but please remember that we have also been working on numerous language builds, the single-player gold master, and of course, the fixes and features for our first day online what we call Patch 0.
DX10 Update
The build of Hellgate: London which you are reviewing includes both DX9 and DX10 versions of the graphics library. The DX10 version of this build has a few known issues. They include a slow framerate compared to the same scene in DX9 and black loading screens. Were currently working on a fix for the black loading screens. The slower framerate is due to the fill-rate intensive special features that only our DX10 engine has, including: soft shadows with proper contact hardening, depth-of-field, motion blur, interactive GPU-simulated fluid smoke, texture-array animated rain, and soft particles. The extra fill rate costs are mitigated by an initial depth-only render pass, which is now being tested and will be ready for release. When Hellgate: London hits retail, we expect the framerate of our DX10 target to be as high, if not higher than DX9, including these special features.
PVP
Players can both duel and elect to enter free-for-all PvP Mode. To duel, a player invites the person they wish to duel into a group, and heads into an adventuring area. Duelers, then right-click on the portrait of the person they wish to duel and select the Duel option from the displayed list. Dueling can only take place outside of Underground hubs.
Players can also choose to enter into PvP mode which means they can be attacked and harmed outside of Underground hubs by anyone else that has chosen to enter PvP mode. That is, those in PvP mode, must always be ready for PvP. This is a way to have wide-ranging free-for-alls, or create your own friendly-fire way of playing the game.
Subscriber Features
Elite Mode
This is for those players that always feel a game is too easy. The demons are tougher, deal out more damage, move faster, travel in larger groups, and have more champions at the ready.
Hardcore
Hardcore mode takes away the various resurrection options. For the gamer that wants the ultimate test, try playing an Elite Hardcore character!
Themed Events and Items
Halloween (October 31 November 4)
* Zombot - A special pet just for All Hallows, this amalgam of meat and metal is sure to frighten and delight those players that are willing to put in the time to find all the necessary pieces in order to construct him.
* All Hallows Visage - A Unique Helm that has not only very special properties, but as well a look unlike any other helm in the game. Ghost Rider would be jealous!
* All Hallows Treats - Delicious and devious, these different candies do everything from temporarily boosting stats to temporarily altering the appearance of the devourer.
* All Hallows Quests - There is a pair of special quests available, including one that is repeatable for continuous fun.
* Nemo ~ Master of Festivities - This special NPC can first be found in Covent Garden Station to greet players and send them on their way with quests specifically crafted for the season.
Guild Creation
Buy purchasing a Guild Herald, a character can form a new guild. Characters can only be part of one guild at a time and should a Guild leader decide to abandon their post, they can pass leadership of the Guild to another subscribing guild member.
Achievements
These are long-term goals for players. The player starts with a few new goals in an Achievement Log. These can be as simple as slaying a certain amount of specific demons to something as difficult as completing quests without the benefit of armor! Players uncover new goals as they start to meet the requirements of that achievement. For example, after 50 zombies have been slain, an Achievement Unlocked message displays on the screen. Checking the Achievement Log shows how many zombies must be eradicated to complete the achievement. Rewards for completing achievements can be anything from reputation to tags on the player to special particle effects to items to special skills to well, anything is possible!
Extra Character Slots
While everyone gets 3 character slots, subscribers can have a maximum of 24 characters.
Larger Stash
Each characters storage locker is doubled in size with an extra 6x8 section, making the hoarding of all sorts of goodies that much easier. Packrats rejoice!

More to come (this will be an on-going area, as well)
--------------------------------------------------------
The DX10 revisions sound promising, but we will have to wait and see how much they really improve.
I find it a little annoying that they are making the themed events (like the Halloween special events) only available to subscribers, but seeing as how they want to make money its not too surprising.
-
is there a way to "complete" the demo? im at level 5 and dont know what to do.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I have a level 5 of both characters in the demo.
I am giving thought to the game, as much as I said I wouldnt like it... well that still holds true for the most part but I have like 6 hours a night at work to kill, so a game that rewards you for the more time you put into it may appeal to me. So I can keep up with those "no lifes" that have ultra high level and cool gear but get paid for doing it.
I have a fairly slow internet connection at work too, but this game lets you do offline mode so it may just work. However it all depends on the cost of the game.... and a 10$ monthly fee is very high. Most mmorpgs are lower than that and there servers have more load.
First I need to get some problems settled. I saw alot of "laptop" problem threads on the hellgate london guru forums, but most of those people probably have a lower end notebook vs my c90. I noticed tho on my desktop (have not used it on my notebook yet) that even with a 7800gtx in wide open areas the game became a slide show. it didnt even seem like a low fps, just like the game itself was skiping.
Those jumping lizards, sometimes I would see them start the animation to jump, but then they would never land (the animation) but I would get attacked and have to hit an invisible monster and suddenly it would die and appear.
Also a few times my blade master would just start swinging his sword over and over with no input and there was no way to make him stop without entering a menu.
The game also CTD (crashed to desktop) like 3x on me and that would really suck online (or even deep into a one player game, when you restart you end up in town)
So those problems I really need some answers for, I didnt see a single thread about any of those problems in the hellgate forums.
Lastly I would like to know how it plays on a slow internet connection and how items and xp are disributed online. Do you get xp just for hitting the enemy or is it the person that kills it? or the person gets porportional to the damage they did? -
There will be a live chat on Halloween with the people at Flagship Studios who made Hellgate London. You can sign up for it at the link below. If any one has any questions about the game that haven't already been answered this may be a good way to get your answer(s).

Can my comp run it 3.0ghz 1g ram x700 pro? im thinkin about buyin it depending
-
also if i can What settings should i be able to run?
-
My Pentium M 1.8ghz, 2gb RAM, x700 notebook runs it fine at max resolution at medium settings. Yours should do the same, but getting more RAM is a good idea.
Anyone else looking forward to Hellgate: London?
