I was just browsing through some upcoming games. I saw this one: Front Mission Evolved.

It looks like a Mech type game. Anyone know any specifics about it?

Comes from a long line of Front Mission games, the best being front mission 3 on PS1, think final fantasy with mechs, fans of the series are not holding this new game in high regard as its a move away from the JPRG genre to an armoured core style game. Either which way I will still be buying it as i happen to like armoured core lol

Didn't really want to derail the thread though lol, apparently ingame footage.

Kinda looking forward to the new front mission game, the armoured cores have gone down a little bit since number 2 on PS2.

I had front mission 1 & 3. A good alternative to games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Vandal Hearts.

Only thing that sucked is if you built your characters wrong you could get totally stuck in that game by not being able to win a mission. But I was like 14 years old I think back then so maybe the game is easier than I remember it.

Really did enjoy FM3, picked it up again a while back mint condition for a tenner bargain imo. Loved the fact the game had 2 completely different story lines depending on something you said at the start of the game. The internet mini game was also totally ahead of its time.

Yeah, that MechWarrior game looks awesome. And I think those controls Pitabred showed are from Steel Battalion or very similar. Here's my YouTube I made when I owned it on original Xbox. That game was HARD.

Horrible video. But just was trying to demonstrate the controller and used the built in demo to show it off. The table I built myself, which I usually do for any type of flight or big honkin' controller. Get that from my dedicated flight sim days. Falcon 4 especially. I think I logged more hours in that sim than all games I've ever played combined.

The guys doing the Mechwarrior reboot don't have a publisher.

RE: Evolved. I'll will be buying it day one.
FM4 was the PS2 game; it's FM5 which didn't receive an English translation.

I felt FM4 was > FM3. The link attacks and larger selection of weapons really sold me on the game.

I've been watching the videos and what I really don't like is that the mechs look like they're on roller skates. Kind of takes away from the expected big lumbering mech. I like feeling like I'm in a huge mechanical suit loaded to the gills with enough aresenal to demolish a huge city. Of course smaller and faster mechs are always welcome, but hovering makes it look cheap.

The boost is standard technology in their universe, and has been for some time.

Watch the Front Mission 4 Campaign Intro, to get an idea of what real-time Wanzer combat was always envisioned as being.

I can understand why that would bother fans of mech simulations, but this is a Japanese series, afterall. Their vision has always been more high-speed.

Wow, thanks. I could see it being a temporary speed boost or something, maybe that's what it is. I may have to dig out my PS2 (I have slim PS3 so no PS2 emulation) and pick up the series if I can find it and cheap enough. Looks nice.

Your laptop will handle PS2 emulation depending on the type of game but for the most part, some will run at full speed so that's another option to consider if you want to.

I will give Front Mission 3 on the PS1 a go first though but I will see how emulation handles both of them. I find all of those games to be pretty cheap on Amazon / Ebay due to their age and you can use CloneCD to do an image that can be loaded.

Actually Front Mission 5 was the best one, released for the PS2 but only avail in JPN. Better story, more wanzers, graphics are better, more skills...oh damn it was great~

FM4 wasn't as great, but at least the storyline was good.

If you ever get a copy of Front Mission 5 , there's a translation group that translates all that JPN text if you couldn't understand everything, but you need a modded PS2/emulator to play this.

I took a quick look at Front Mission 5 and it says the fan made translation took around 4 years or more to do with over 2000 pages of dialogue to contend with. They did an interview of the guys who did the translation.

There's a new gameplay video out:

    <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hbdgbxwm9z8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='640' height="385">

I'm wondering it isn't up for pre-order yet, if it's still scheduled for September. I'm definitely buying on the release date.

Skip to 3:10, if you don't want to see any story, but do want a peek at the Wanzer customization.

Front mission evolved looks like they have turned a highly tactical classic game franchise into a generic shoot em up with big robots but choosing to use the good name to fool people into making a purchase. This reminds me of farcry 2 and Operation Flashoint Dragon sinking or what ever the name was.

Hmmm..I'm not too keen about a shootup version of Front Mission. But I can see voiceovers are pretty well done like the previous FMs, cinematics are SquareEnix quality, and the video gets much more interesting after 3:12.

Hopefully the game would be alright considering the revamped from a great turnbased game to a 3rd person shooter

I just put in my pre-order, on Steam. I was waiting to see if DD orders also received the two bonus mechs, and I'm glad it worked out that way.

I do wonder, if they're the same ones the console gamers will receive.

Armored Core didn't have much storyline...Front Mission's storyline was always really interesting, and this is their first PC port
