I just got a Dell m4400 through work that came with a quadro FX770 gpu (and a T9400 cpu). OK, so it doesn't have a 9800 gpu like I would have preferred (for my after work gaming sessions), but I guess it could be worse.

Any recommendations on improving the performance of this gpu? Would you recommend overclocking it? If so, what settings did you use, and how much better performance did you achieve? (I'm not very familiar with doing this, but would be willing to go this route if there is a substancial increase or benefit in gaming performance.)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards.

the Quadro 770M is equivalent to the Geforce 9600M GT

so anyone playing on a 9600M GT notebook can comment on the performance, which would be the same as the 770M.

Both are mid-range cards (128-bit memory interface), so you can expect it to perform fine with most games and apps at medium/high-ish settings.... but definitely a high-end GPU (256-bit) like a 9800M will outperform it by over two times.

i own a laptop with a ddr3 9600m gt and your same cpu and i can run every game i've thrown at it (including crysis) most games play on high or medium/high with framerates above 30 but crysis gets about 17-20 on all gamer settings ( idon't remember what resolution but i think it was 1440X900) it overclocks well for me at least. i went from stock at 500/800/1250 to 650/930/1545, which i beleive are fairly close to stcok 9700m gt clocks, and have not had any artifact or overheating issues.

edit: thinking back i think i was running crysis on 1280X800

I would say 9600m gt is good but not that beast to play at high resolution and settings. Have a look.

actually Quadro is NVIDIA. firegl is ATI. and yes, the drivers for workstation cards are optimized for openGL performance, but they are still esentially the same thing as their consumer counterpart so they can still play games

There's no reason they can't play games, but they're not optimized for it that's all. Quadros(and FireGLs) have openGL and other features enabled to make them perform better at rendering and other such work tasks while gaming GPUs don't have that.

I've heard the FX770M overclocks really well though.
