Diablo: IncGamers Beta is Live – It could be you!
So any lucky NBR people happen to get an email with a beta notification? If so I want screenshots and first impressions!![]()

Best Oxymoron ever!
-
If you wasn`t selected, there are other ways to play this Beta....
EDIT: nevermind. This method is not functional yet -
I guess play diablo 2 until the invite to get your fix
-
The beta is more like a demo. I've watched a tonne of it so far and honestly? It's kind of boring. Looks like you'd have fun the first run or two and then nothing.
-
If anyone got the beta, do you think they'd waste time telling us about it?
-
dungeon crawlers are all about repetitiveness though...
-
Are they going to do a pre-order to get into the beta deal?
-
not yet, fingers crossed
-
No, dungeon crawlers are about variety, variety, variety. You want to overwhelm players with choices, like which loot to use, which skill to pick, which stat to go with, with dungeon to explore, which mobs to ignore. The D3 beta looks extremely linear, claustrophobic (there's zero sense of open-world, biggest areas are the size of small areas in D2), and there's no choice (loot is instanced, little choice in character customization / augmentation).
-
Makes perfect sense to me. I gather that this beta is more about finding and squishing specific sorts of bugs; gameplay-wise, I doubt they need any heavy testing going on at this stage.
This is Blizzard we're talking about. I would bet the farm on Diablo 3 being a great game when it eventually gets released, whenever that happens to be. -
There's a ton of people playing it live on twitch.tv.
Check it out. You end up having to kill King Leoric again, and that's the end of the Beta apparently. -
I havent played the beta, but from everything ive read I just cant see where you're coming from. It isnt an open world game like oblivion. The variety comes from randomizing small chunks of the entire setting so play throughs feel different (at least hopefully). That's a big change from an actual linear, claustrophobic game (like fable 2 for example).
Also, it looks to me like there is WAY more choice involved in D3 than in either of the previous games. Stat allocation really means little for customization in Diablo. Everyone in D2 did the same thing, regardless of class. Also, you were forced into a very limited set of skills if you wanted your character to be useful. Choosing 6 active skills (from 20) and 3 passive skills (from 15), then choosing 5 customizations from each active skill, sounds like a hell of a lot of customization to me. Not sure what you mean by loot being instanced... Maybe diablo just isnt your style? -
has anyone gotten this to work with an optimus chipset?
-
Oh boy here we go again.
Poorly made stat allo > no stat allo at all, a CRPG isn't a CRPG if you don't have the ability to mould your character via stat allocation, it is a core component of the genre. Instead of tackling the balance issue that plagued D2 stats, D3 devs used D2 as a pathetic excuse and cut it out altogether, which in turn is even worse. Besides, max block / high accuracy requires high dex, energy shield sorc requires high ene.
Don't forget breakpoints for FCR, FHR, FBR, IAS, all class-based and unique.
Why do most games go to painstaking lengths to make intricate skill trees? So that your character may develop into what you want it to, that is the essence of progress in a role-playing game. Being able to use all available skills with constantly maximum efficacy (D3's skill system past level 30 in a nut-shell) is NOT customization, I repeat, NOT customization. It is homogenization.
Numbers don't mean jack, sure skill runes are a great customization system, but they are only great if they are superimposed onto actual skill progression and not "unlock everything, also everything scales with level" system.
Diablo is all my style. In fact Diablo II has always been my favorite game of all time. In my opinion (and many others who hold Diablo I/II close to their hearts), Diablo III is Diablo in name only. -
maaaaan I have a huge craving for playing this beta. About 2 hours of gameplay if you explore everything in the beta. Is it wrong for me to wish that the crack of the beta is soon complete? Its not like Blizzard will lose anything with a pirate copy...
-
Someone emulated first town already — you cant do anything there but at least you can launch, run around and check how the game runs on your rig. Not much more then that.
p.s. i hope i didnt discuss anything illegal
-
Yup I saw some videos of that crack on youtube
They are working on emulating the game fully, but Blizzard played a good hand with emulating everything through their servers. I don`t see anything wrong in discussing pirated beta releases. I mean its not like Blizzard is charging anything for it, and downloading this game would be like pirating a demo of a game rotfl
-
I didn't get in, but I did get my battle.net account broken into.

I thought this wasn't getting released until Q1 2012? Beta this soon?
-
Here are some pretty killer videos of the beta posted on iGN:

I was asking this myself. When Starcraft 2 was released, it took only one month after the beta closed. I don't know if they will keep the beta live until December if, by any chance, they decide to do the same. They are different games after all.
But I get this feeling that they want to launch it after the fall storm of games to make it a best quarter seller. I'm guessing they want space.
-
Apparently some felt/hoped it would be released in 2011, based on timing of beta, but here is an article pointing to "official release" notification:
Diablo 3 - Official: "Early 2012" - RPGWatch Forums -
Blizzard would be crazy to release D3 this year. They would have to compete with TES Skyrim, which we all know will be *very* popular...
-
I dunno. Blizzard usually doesn't care about competition because there really is none, the fan base is so huge.
Anyone get in on Diablo 3 beta?
