Anyone gotten Thief 2 to work on Vista?

The subject pretty much sums it up - I've been trying to get this game to work on and off for the last 12 months, but no dice.

After the first level loads, the game will runs for ~20 seconds before crashing to desktop.

I've tried running as admin and all the compatibility modes, but still nothing.

Does anyone have experience with running Metal Age on Vista?

 

Hmm... I dont know about Thief 2 on Vista, but i sure as hell struggled to get Theif Gold to run in XP (my Acer machine with specs as in the sig). The problem was that the game was crashing to desktop after Main menu -> New game. I did a search in the net and got some patches and stuff which enabled me to play the game finally. I suggest you to do the same. (One hint - if you have a dual core processor, try setting the affinity of the running game to single core, from Task manager -> Process)

P.S - Recently i did a clean XP re-installation and now i figured that i forgot to take backup of the patch file and instructions! Again in the dark about Theif Gold and XP . Too lazy to repeat the search, since i will be getting my m15x this month end and will be anyway upgrading my choice of games.
