Well, I've had my E1705 for a month or so now and figured it was time to instal and play a little BF2 (one of my favorite games even though it gives me endless amounts of trouble). Well, instals and runs plenty nice (can't run it on full graphics settings because of only having a gig of ram at the moment). Whenever I join a game I always get kicked off because of high ping though. I assume it is because I'm trying to play over my wireless, haven't tried pluging it in directly to my router yet though. It sort of bugs me, I get kicked for pings of like 180 (which isn't high at all), and I have yet to play a whole game of bf2. It isn't that I have my video settings turned up too high, I actually have them way lower than what they could be at. Anyone else have this problem or have an idea to fix it (I really don't feel like pluging in every time I want too play bf2).

I could be because your wireless router has signal loses. That can be because your wireless router doesn't support the speed of your telephone line (or cable). I would try to play with your laptop plugged in into the router once. If that works, you'll know what's the problem.

(P.S. sorry for the bad English)

I have wireless g, I only get pings 10-15 higher than if I was plugged. I also only have a gig of ram, so I cant run everything on high, like I should be able to.

I will be getting another gig soon.

I have a similar problem with halo. The gam gets locked up whenever I try to move so I can't do anything except look around. I ususally get a message saying the game has closed shortly thereafter. This all happens even though my ping is MUCH lower than everyone elses. When playing over a wired connection the gmae works fine.

Its a G, and its not a problem with the router, or my wireless, its the freaking game. I installed the "Project Reality" Its pretty much just like BF2 with some tweeks to make it more realistic. Well, I can play that find with a ping of like 60 or 70. And BF2 doesnt run slow, I just keep getting kicked because of high ping. There have been a few times I was able to play a few minutes and it ran perfect, no lag or anything. I don't freaking get it.

go to dlsreports.com and try some of their free test to see if you can narrow down the problem.

ROFL, I fixed it. Like I said it was the games stupid "default" settings that I never bothered to change. For some reason it was set up saying that I have T1, all I did was bump it down to the DSL/Cable setting and it runs fine (I get a ping of like 65).

wifi and BF2 or any new game do not mix (unless you have an A router right next to your lappy and FIOS data package). The ram issue just goes to show you no matter what your grfx and cpu are ram will limit you. This is my issue too, I have alot more then bf2 requires yet max settings cant be done due to ram.

it is the connection. You do need to be plugged in. I mean I can play decently on my WiFI (which is ages old) But every so often i get kicked for ping.

You can’t play BF2 with those high pings, because by the time you aim to somebody, he’ll have already killed you (50 to 100 is o.k.). I also have an E1705 and play endless hours on high settings (64 maps) but plugged in, no wireless. It’s true, BF2 sucks a lot of ram. When I had 1 GB of ram in my old PC, it crashes a lot because it was constantly reading de HD. But with 2 GB of ram, things go much better.

well bf2 ran fine on my old desktop that only had 1 gb of ram, tho it was on medium settings (p4 2.8 ghz, 9800 pro 128 mb) and i play ut2k4 all the time on wireless and my ping is only a little bit higher than wired. I guess it has to do with the amount of interference.

Using wireless uses more system resources too, I sometimes play bf2 wirelessly, and sometimes it works great. But I would reccomend plugging it in. My router does drop the wireless signal every now and then. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks

BF2 and lag is associated with several things.

#1. yes wireless will be slower than wired and could cause possible headaches. Look at getting hardwired if @ all possible.

#2. BF2 prefers 2gb of memory to run effectivily otherwise your constraint will be on the memory and not on the GPU / CPU. I've had to reduce my game to 1280x1024 with medium / low settings to get bf2 to play under my pagefile usage. At that rate it STILL runs at 846MB pagefile and is cutting it close on the larger maps.

Either upgrade your memory or cut your graphics down (AA / AF chews up about 400mb alone).

No no no, freaking read people. I fixed it, it wasn't the wireless (well, it might have contributed to the problem, but it wasnt the root of it). It was some obscure setting that was set up saying I was using T1, I set it to DSL/cable and it works fine, i only get pings of like 65. Yeah, I already know how much ram BF2 needs, it consitantly uses about 1.5 gigs. I did turn down my graphics plenty just to elminate this problem until i get 2 gigs like i have been planning on.
