Hey guys,
Anyone here play Armed Assault? Its the "sequel" to Operation Flashpoint. Basically its an incredibly realistic military simulator. Heaps of different vehicles and aircraft to play around with. Ton's of weapons, generally smart AI as well.
The graphics are beautiful. When you crank it up, its brilliant, especially when you're watching a battle unfold from atop a hill, or flying through the smoke of burning tanks in your Cobra.
There's a very large community supporting it as well with some excellent mod's being made.
I thoroughly advise anyone who hasn't heard of it before to check it out.
Just go onto Youtube and type in ARMA. You'll get heaps of video's showing off the game.
So anyone here play it/used to play it?

Yes it is. Operation Flashpoint is without debate the most realistic FPS war simulator of all time. One shot... one kill... almost... And no health meters, just medics (that can die, doh!)
Thus the descendants of opflash ARE going to be equally realistic.. Plus the campaigns are unforgettable! -
I played the demo, and thought it was BAd(not good) I loved operation flashpoint tho, but ArmA controls were insane.

My brother plays it, might grab it off him later. I thought i saw Codemasters on the box
Im hoping it would be like Ghost Recon, i liked that game.
Will it ARMA work with a 8400m GS? -

usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
I tried the demo and it was terrible. The controls were totally crazy and performance was abysmal even with mediocre graphics, it was extremely buggy as well.
Sure the prospect of large scape on-line multiplayer conflict like Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising was interesting but it just never really formalized in ArmA. -
Forget about the online multiplayer (which is excellent btw). Where this game really shined was the abundance of player created scenario's and missions. Just jump on the internet and download to your hearts content. Everything's been made for this game. No matter what sort of mission you're looking for, this game has most likely had it created!
But my favourite part of this game as to be the co-op multiplayer. I love downloading a decent co-op mission, and playing it over LAN. Running under fire to your friends blackhawk and making it, only to have the tailrotor shot out moments later and crash into a building is brillant.
OP Flashpoint and ARMA are so similar its not even funny. I consider ARMA just OPFLASH with better graphics.
I've seen hardly any bugs in the game. Playing the demo gives hardly any of the potential of this game. -
I wish the game wasn`t so badly optimised otherwise i might actually enjoy it as i loved some of the old Operation Flashpoints missions as they were very demanding in a tactical sense with a strong emphasis on timing and survival.
Let hope the upcoming Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising works out. -

I ran the game fine on my Asus W3J with a ATI X1600. I thought a modern day Nvidia 8400 would be able to run it fine?
Now that im playing it on my brothers desktop with 8800gts, damn does it look good! Has made what was orginally a good game, frigging awesome.
My new XPS laptop will be here sometime this week. Will be installing it on that now. They're some awesome mods being released. I want to get the Chammy sound mod, and Madmat's effects package. Also heaps of new vehicle models I want. Plus the new artillery... Arrrgh, the list goes on! -
ARMA was made by Bohemia Interactive. So that is the true sequel to Op Flashpoint. I reckon Op Flashpoint 2 will be more arcadey, aimed at the general market more so than ARMA.
ARMA 2 is currently in developement, im eagerly awaiting that. -
I Play ARMA, i like it alot, takes some getting used to as an OFP player, for about 7 years, but i like it, and the RKSL addons look awesome...
-
OFP2 will certainly look more hawt than ArmaA though!
Oh and
Oh and one more thing about OFP class games... FORGET about low-end gaming... even if you want to play with low graphics that's fine... But this is one hell of a realistic tactical shooter, so you might want long corona distances... like seeing a target >1KM away on open fields... even on medium detail, should be very demanding! -
I own ArmA only because I love OpFlash so much. But couldn't get into ArmA too much. Maybe will give it a shot now that there's patches. But will probably have to run it on my desktop PC which I don't get to very often any more.

Some mod's out there definetly add alot to the game. I thouroughly advise downloading the Chammy sound mod, makes the weapons and general sounds heaps better. There's also a good tracer mod available which makes the tracers look more realistic and better.
Anyone here play ARMA?
