Just wondering if anyone has heard of a time frame for GTA IV to come out for PC. I'm sorry if this has been asked 10000 times before; a quick search seems to produce a bunch of old links.

Well I have it for XBOX 360, and I personally think that Rockstar Games is trying to earn money by selling the game on consoles to prevent piracy for a little while now. It might be a while before it comes out on PC, might be tomorrow, I personally can't really tell, but I would guess that they're delaying it to prevent piracy and earn some money off of the game.
-
Roumers are saying October 08 to 2 years from now.
-
When they SUCK every LAST drop and ounce of money from the console market where its less easily pirated.
-
Maybe in a year or so...
-
No reason it wouldnt, cant wait for the awesomesauce version!
And please, piracy thing is an excuse the devs use, or those who are denying that just maybe people dont buy as many PC games, its not dieing, but its not in greatest health. The reason why it isnt out is that its a HUGE game, on two distinctly different consoles, not forgetting how complicated the PS3 is. Hence to then have to port and optimise for the PC wouldve put them back by MONTHS, heck, the game would be coming out in XMAS. With that said, now that the game is complete, and porting from the 360 will be pretty painless, we can expect it VERY soon -
It might never come out on PC. They haven't announced a PC version, and it might not be worth the significant effort it'd require to port it.

It is in frech but they claim October of this year -
That's NEXT October.So I`m guessing 2009.
-
Piracy has nothing to do with it. Anyone can download Xbox games as they would for PC ISOs. So that's not the issue here.
The thing is Rockstar has made some kind of agreement with Microsoft and Sony to release it to the consoles first so everybody makes money.
I actually know people who bought a PS3 just for GTA IV. So yeah, they're counting on console-kiddies to buy Sony and Microsoft's products.
If you think about it, it's kinda like a Beta for the real gamers, the PC gamers
It'll come out, this October. I'm willing to bet money on it! -
100$ it is then. Bookie, get over here
-
If it comes out in October, you buy me a copy and mail it to me.
If it doesn't, I'll pay you $100.
-
Yeah, I'd bet it comes out for PC close to Christmas buying season. They may want to milk the kiddies, but they won't miss the windfall from having it on all platforms for Christmas, before all the hype is dead. Of course, if Rockstar has given up on PC, it might not be till next year. I hope not.

PC piracy is MUCH more of an issue and completely risk free. On PC, anyone can do it, on console, you need to mod your console, which might i add will cost you. Then theres the risks, on PC, you pirate a game, heck you might even get into cracked servers and enjoy MP. On console, not only NO MP, but you may have forever changed your console to the extent you cant even go about your legit business. Even then, MS may even brick your console.
Is piracy an issue? Sure as heck is, PC is still a great platform, its got the most AAA and AA games of which most are exclusive. Is it the best platform, thats a different question but those niche exclusive quality games, they survive on word of mouth, and every copy that gets pirated is cutting into their sales significantly. Yes most pirates who steal probably wouldnt buy, but a good portion would. So if 500k people decide they dont want to pay, even if it is 50k people that wouldve had they not that opportunity to get it free, that 50k couldve contributed to you surviving or not. This is a debate i can go into forever, but lets leave it at that
This is a HUGE franchise, this is a game with immense hype, and importantly, all past games have sold well on PC, so there is no reason to why they shouldnt port it. Again, they didnt do it with the 360 and PS3 because they were working with limited consoles and needed every second for optimisation, but now they have a completed game at hand that they can easily move over from 360 -
Youre right, all console users are tards...
-
The colloquialism is console-kiddies. I didn't make it up, I just use it.
-
Rockstar specifically wrote they never intend to make a PC version.
Of course, what this really means is that some third party company will code up a port and it will be released a year from now. GTA games are always released for PC a year after console release.
Ok, discussion over, someone lock the thread now.
-
Oh. That's awesome. Yeah, so I hate Rockstar now. I hope hotcoffee 2 puts them out of buisness.
-
Considering the publicity hotcoffee got them in the first place...a hot coffee 2 would probably net them another billion dollars of revenue.
In GTA4 the statue of liberty is replaced by Hillary Clinton holding up a coffee cup, no matter how you feel about the controversy, you've got to appreciate the reference there. -
Every other GTA console game took almost a year to be ported to the PC, you just decided to ignore the other 3 ports and start hating them after the fourth one?
-
link, they said they won't port this one at all. They are abandoning their roots. GTA started top down on the PC.
-
Well they better hurry up, this game has serious framerate issues on the 360 and all console "kiddies" who complains games requires a 4 x better PC to play the same should just scratch their heads and look at this game. It drops easily down to 10-15 fps in some heavy areas. It feels like the game runs at 25 fps all the time not 30. Oh yeah 30 in some areas where the are not movement, i.e cars nor people walking. But that is occasional.
Time to make the game for the platform it was born on and which can handle the game smoothly. Even with all optimizations on this game the consoles are just not up to it and this proves it really well. Great game though, but having constant frame drops on my 360 is unacceptable and yes all 360´s has this problem no 360 is any different in terms of CPU speed, faster GPU or whatnot
Just for those who says "But my version of GTA runs smoothly on my 360, well then your 360 must be overclocked)
-
I know this sounds newbish, but since I don't own any of the next gen consoles I must ask. Does xbox 360 comes with a FPS counter? or how are people getting their FPS count in games?
-
Yeah I use fraps
No just kidding. When I say some fps numbers those are of course not the correct ones. This is just how my eyes feel the game runs at since I have been a PC player for many many years I am used to how many frames that is smoothly for me at least.
But there is some review site that complains about the performance too, some site said when lots is happening on screen at once the game runs at barely 20´s. And the game runs at 25 fps most of the time, not 30 fps like the console standard is set to. -
I hope you are joking. Game piracy is the Achilles heel of PC gaming.
When a guy can borrow his friends game DVD and get it playing on his computer with his friends key and an ISO then there is a 50$ hole punched in some developers heart.
And getting a pirated game for an Xbox 360 is way harder than obtaining an illegal PC copy. -
Well if your friend borrow you a game it´s very easy to just rip the game disc and burn the iso file to a DVD and play it on your modded 360, same thing.

It is not the same thing for the very reason highlighted in your post. With PC piracy, it's install and go.
Personally, I hope GTA4 never comes out for the PC because it's pure comedy to watch PC gamers continue to wax poetic about how unfair life is because a game developer won't release for their precious platform. Heaven forbid a developer make as much money as possible on a console. -
well if its about begging devs then i dont care, PC has its own titles you know.
-
Guys, no piracy talk please,or the thread will be closed.
None whatsoever. This about GTA IV for the PC,stay on topic. -
Okay so if console users are such tools why do you want to play their game?
Its going to get ported, anyone who thinks it isnt is being silly. Plenty of devs said their games wont only for them to make an announcement few months later -
Actually GTA IV is the only game I have played in about a year now on the 360. I still see my 360 as my kiddies toy, yes I bought it for my two sons you know that is far away from the teen age and can handle PC´s far better than most console fanboys out there, even at such a low age.
Yes PC has it´s own exclusives that the kiddies will never get. Starcraft 2 and Empire Total War to name a few of them.
Sooner or later GTA IV will hit the PC´s without the ridicilous framerate issues. -
GTA IV will have to go into the PC domain, that would pump up the income a lot. There are many GTA fans out there...myself included.
-
I'd concider buying it for PC. Not console though. It makes me sad though that they burned the control scheme by consolizing it.
-
Exactly, i rebought San Andreas for the PC simply because of the graphics and modding capabilities. Oh well, the general reaction is either the elitists saying its good for their system and theyll get it only better, and if they dont its because its console trash...
-
It's going to come out for the PC, I'm sure.
The only reason they released it for the Xbox and PS3 was because they made an agreement with Microsoft and Sony. Dan Houser said that himself.
I'm sure they already have the PC version done and done, but they're just waiting for all the console-kiddies to wear down all the hype and buy as many consoles as they can, before releasing it.
Also, it's a good testing ground. Yeah, there's FPS issues and glitches, so they will sort out all of those for the PC version. In a way, the console-kiddies are getting a Beta.
Anyone know when GTA IV will be released for the PC?
