So i am interested in connecting a games console to my laptop through USB 2.0, so i can use the laptop screen, i have read a lot that all USB 2.0 HD game capture devices will always have lag no matter what and that the non HD types are playable because of lower resolution, some people saying that it depends on PC specification.

Has anyone managed to get a device that makes it at least playable? would turning the resolution down to 720p make things better?

Or should i completely forget about it and just get a new laptop with a better graphics card?

Even a new laptop won't matter. You need a direct input through HDMI or DisplayPort, but pretty much zero laptops offer any video input to use on laptop LCD (there are a couple, but older models). Lag will be unbearable with any existing solution out there.

Yep. Some of the now older Alienwares did it.
None of the external solutions work well unless they are connected through something high bandwidth like Thunderbolt. Even then I'm not sure how good it would be.

Nah, i meant playing the games on a new laptop with a better graphics card, most of the games i want to play are available on PC as well as console.

It was just a cheaper and simpler option for me to get either an Alienware Alpha or a games console

I am sure the USB 3.0 devices are fine, check Elgato (for anyone who is interested), but they cost quite a bit.
