Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has played Supreme Commander on their x1700 laptop? I'm looking to get a core2duo 2.0 notebook with a x1700, but I'm not sure if it will be able to play current RTS games. I don't want to spend an extra $600+ dollars just to get a laptop with a 7950gtx card. Yet, RTS' are starting to get more and more graphic intensive.

I'm sure it will meet the "recommended specs", but does that mean I will get an optimal experience? I prefer playing games with atleast 30fps and high details. It doesn't have to have super high resolution, but I want all the eye candy to be there. Will I get that with an x1700? People always refer to it as "decent" or "excellent", but don't mention real world examples.

For some reason, you don't find many reviews and benchmarks using RTS games. By the looks of Supreme Commander and Command & Conquer 3, the graphics have got me scared for any mid-range mobile graphics cards. Can anyone shed some light for me? Frame rates? Performance? Experiences? Thanks.

i have a go7600 which is slightly worse than the x1700. also have a 1.83 core duo (not the core 2 duo)

ive downloaded the demo of supreme commander and c&c 3.

I play with everything at max/ultra (apart from shadows) and get perfectly playable rates (atleast 30 fps) on c&c 3.

I cant really help you on the supreme commander front, i only played it a couple of times and then uninstalled it, i just didnt find it that fun! but from what i can remember i put everything on medium and it ran perfectly fine (atleast 30 fps)

supcom is harder on the cpu than the gpu. an x1700 will have no problem playing it.

It all depends on two factors: 1) map size and 2) number of units. The bigger the map, the harder it will be on your CPU. The more units on your primary (and secondary) display, the harder it will be on your GPU.

I run the demo skirmish just fine at medium-high settings---this is basically a small, two player duel map. However, my friend with a Turion X2 desktop and 7800GTX says he notices slowdown in the large skirmish maps.
