I reserved it but reviews i found only gave it like a 8.2. said graphics and AI were nice but items from quest were boring and repetitious. Im wondering if I should just get GOW 2 instead.

    God Of war 2...

The engine that stalker is absolute garbage..Most ppl needs to play on Directx 8 mode since directx9 mode is poorly optimized..
And Widescreen is also poorly optimized
stalker has lots of bugs and glithces in it..A big disapointment it is

I mean they had 6 freakin years! What in the hell were they doing in that 6 years???

I thought it was better than the scores showed. Beta was fun. I agreed more with the reader reviews.

Since when did PC games (or even all these next gen console games) ever ship without bugs? They can be fixed. You just got to deal with them.

but they had 6 year to develop the god damned game!
most ppl w/ directx9 capable cards are also oforced to play under directx 8 which look like complete crap (since dynamic lighting make the game almost unplayable unless youhave something like x1600+)

It needs optimization which will come with patches.

The game on the other hand is fantastic. I feel like i'm in a living world

There are these nearly invisible sonic barriers that when you get close do a sort of sonic boom and dmg you.

well there were these dogs that first time i went through were feeding on a body and then the next time i went by they saw a pig on the other side of the fence squealing and decided to try and get to it and kill it. They ran into the barrier and were killed. It was pretty amazing actually.

    I recommend this game.

I kind of agree, but the game is still good, just turn on static lighting. I go from 47 FPS to ~10 FPS when I turn on the full dynamic lighting , that is annoying =/. I can't even play 800x600 @ medium with full HDR.

Where is the XG when you need it? It's games like this that make me want to ditch the X1400 for an entirely new notebook. My HDTV is begging for Asus to release it! Argh!

by running in dx8 mode do you mean just turn all of the settings down, or is there an option for this? I need to know cause it's running like A$$ on my system.

I bought the game around noon today and I must say, despite my system specs (look at my sig) the game still get's a very unsteady/poor FPS even when the quality tab in video settings is on minimum.

I really can't comment on how the game plays considering that it runs so poorly.

    Static is directx 8 and..
Just a note to everyone who want to buy it. STALKER is not as open ended as oblivion and its a corridor shooter AND only 25% of the area you see on your ingame PDA is accessable
