Anyone here use Hamachi? I wanted to use it so me and a friend can play C&C Generals instead of using the online service from EA which sucks. Problem is on one PC, it only shows the actual LAN IP address, but on the other it shows the Hamachi IP address, which is what you want.
Anyone know how to tell Generals to use one network over another?

Hmm, strange. In the Documents/Zero Hour directory there's a file called network.ini and options.ini. Nothing in the network.ini to do with your LAN for some stupid reason. But in options.ini there are two IP address locations:
one is just called IPaddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
and the other is called GameSpyIPAddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
It seems the Gamespy one is only really a text entry, as it did nothing but change what my IP address was when I did a "direct connect" game, but actual IP address was other. If I change the "IP address" field then that did it.
Just thought I'd share my results in case anyone else has issues. -
Well, I have used hamachi in the past, but not C&C.
Your 5.x.x.x hamachi ip works exactly the same as your standard IP address, except that it is an encrypted VPN tunnel.
You probably need to set up some sort of "direct connection" game rather than connecting to gamespy (which merely facilitates such games as far as I know.)
Maybe someone else around here can help you more. -
I got it figured out. Hamachi should make it like you're on a local network over the internet. You just have to edit the "IPAddress=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" field in options.ini to your Hamachi IP, and voila! It works.

I'm glad you got a game to work on Hamachi. I haven't once had any luck using it (M2:TW and Majesty, maybe others)

Simple, just type in the hamachi ip in place of the normal ip (i.e. your friend's hamachi ip) There is no difference except that both of you have to have hamachi.

Nice for you... should we play together?
