Unfortunately for me, whatever i try i cant get the Catalyst updates to install the newest graphics driver.

My only option is through the Device Manager, is there any way to do it?

I've never heard of anyone having success using "Update Driver" within the Device Manager. I personally haven't ever used it.

What's the problem when you try to install the updates you've downloaded from ATI?

Yep, i got the latest Mobility Catalyst and it always detects my GPU driver as the latest when it isnt (8.712). BTW, my GPU is the HD5650 and im on Windows 7 64bit.

Would be really helpful if i could get the newest driver. :(

Maybe try uninstalling the old driver first.

Unfortunately when i do that, my computer automatically reinstalls the old driver.

The found new hardware wizard doesn't even pop up? The only driver it should be installing on its own is the default windows vga driver, as far as I know (not an expert).

Try starting up without being connected to the internet after the uninstall. Maybe it's downloading an older version from MS or the manufacturer for some reason.

Ive tried uninstalling the drivers from Device Manager, rebooted and made sure it did not reinstall them and yet the only Catalyst package that installs any graphics driver is the one i got with my laptop.

Argh im so frustrated, the extra performance could REALLY help!
