Installed it, tried to play, then :
"Your graphics card does not meet the dead space minimum requirements"
My spec is in my sig. And yes I have the latest drivers.
Tried a re-install.
Any help before I send it back?
Thanks

send what back game or laptop?
it could be a faulty disc maybe -
The game...
I doubt its the disc if it installed properly. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
maybe it needs an update? (the game)
-
yea thats ridiculous it should definitely play lol
-
just a wild guess, try disabling sli.

software problem. sending back the laptop is useless. you could try reinstalling windows, or there is a large possibility, as tianxia points out, that there is a problem with deadspace and SLI.
seriously doubt that you have a hardware problem.
try installing the latest video card drivers from laptopvideo2go.com -
I meant send back the game not laptop LOL.
Tried without SLI, no luck
Tried a 3rd re-install...no luck. -

What about a driver update?
-
i have the 180.43 drivers...so can't change that, it's the latest.
-
-
just to clear stuff up, Deadspace is perfrect with SLI
-
Tried older divers...didn't work
Phoned EA....wouldnt help
BTW I can run far cry 2 fine....i'm so confused. -
Any more ideas?
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
reinstall windows i guess if you really want to play. otherwise get your money back for the game.
-
update your os or declocking any over clocking that you might have. rivstuner will do this to some games. turn off any anti virus or spyware while playing the game. software conflict is a crapper but if al else fails, do the last worst thing.
REFORMAT -
I just installed dead space on my laptop without any problems, specs in sig.
I'm currently using the 177.92 driver from laptopvideo2go. Maybe you could give that a try? I'm also using Vista 32 bit if that makes a difference. -

Reinstalling an OS to play a video game is a tad too much for my liking.
Exchange the disc for another copy, and if it produces the same results, take it back for a full refund. -
This is a very odd issue. I've played this game on 3 different drivers actually and they all worked (177.92, 177.98 and 180.43/my current driver).
-
well i emailed EA, my last resort....nothing is working.
-
In nvidia control panel it says:
"system video memory : 0mb"
could that have anything to do with it? -
Have you installed your Nvidia drivers properly? Improperly installed drivers will make windows install a default driver which is completely incapable of playing games.
-
Use Driver Sweeper or a similar utility to make sure you've properly updated your stuff. I'm quite sure Nvidia shifted some things in the files around with the 180.xx drivers so some 17x.xx stuff might still be around
-
Well I can play far cry 2 and all my other games...
But I'll give it a go.
I'm really running out of ideas. -
Definitely sounds like corrupted drivers if Nvidia Control Panel is giving bad information. Being able to play far cry 2 is kind of irrelevant because that just means it has a different minimum requirements check.
Did you run all the dxdiag diagnostics?
Anyways, on the off chance you can't fix it with a clean driver install, you could try looking for ways to bypass the minimum requirements check. I remember a program I used back on my crappy old desktop that would fool the requirements checks for most games, but I can't seem to find it. You can try google and see if you have better luck, and I'll give you an update if I find it. -

like i said. reinstall the OS. that will remove the possibility of any weird OS problem you have, it will also remove any problems that may of happened when you tried to install deadspace the first time. last, it will give you the opportunity to truly install your graphics card driver in a clean way.
-
0. Download a driver cleaner such as Driver Cleaner Pro or nVidia Nasty Nile Remover if you don't already have one.
1. Start your computer in safe mode, go into the device manager, and uninstall your video card drivers.
2. Reboot (still in safe mode)
3. Run your driver cleaner. In driver cleaner pro you just have to select nvidia from the dropdown menu and click start. I haven't used nvidia nasty file remover but google will help you figure it out if you have trouble.
4. Reboot (again, in safe mode)
5. Install new drivers. If you're using forceware drivers make sure you know how to install them properly without having to look it up on the net because you probably won't be able to use the internet in safe mode. (double check to make sure that other people have successfully used the ones you are trying to play the game you want using the video card/s you have)
6. Reboot in normal mode and you're done. -
Ok I'll give it a go Necromas, thanks.
-
Quick question, is it a possibility that the game doesnt support my card, because it is quite a new card?
I have yet to find a person with this card who plays this game, so it is difficult to judge. -
Looks like the people in the 9800m Overclocking thread have all played dead space successfully (though they say it plays hotter than other games). -
Tried safe mode, didn't work.
-
sorry if am repeating suggestions:
reinstall drivers: try some of the older ones 17x.xx
reinstall the game:
update the game:
disable SLi:
last software resort: reinstall OS
if non of the above is working, well I'm outa ideas -
I gotta think it comes from your video memory being reported as 0MB.... that's got to be the problem right there. Solve that problem, and I bet you'll be fine. Plus, more than likely going to have this problem again with other games until you solve it. Sounds like a driver issue to me though, as menitoned by others.
-
I have over 2 gig of video memory
But it is just "system video memory" that shows as 0
Thanks for all the suggestions though, appreciate it. -
hey, curious, where in the control panel are you seeing this? Which page? Let me look at mine and see what it says on my two systems.
-
nvidia controlpanel > system information > display tab > details
-
-
2nd step would be to exchange the disk for another one, and see if that works. Make sure to completely uninstall it before switching to another disk.
If all that doesn't work, and EA can't help you (which I doubt they can anyway), re-installing your OS is always an option. But make sure you have tried ALL other ways of fixing it, because re-installing an OS. Don't want to go through all that trouble for nothing. -
-
I'm actually having the same issue. Did reinstall a bunch of drivers, and went through 2 different os, settled finally on just playing it on my desktop instead.
System video memory shows up as 0 on my end too, but I'm pretty sure it's EA's requirement checking routine, if you could somehow bypass it the game would run just fine. -

This is a weird problem. Now I don't have the game, but I do concur with the idea of this being driver-related. If a reinstall of the driver or a new driver fails, consider researching as to if the Nvidia video memory count can be edited and manually changed. I'm not sure how Nvidia calculates it, but you may be able to do something like what people have done to 3dMark and and Vista's scoring system to make unrealistic scores. This may help, although I don't know how to to do it. This may be the path of least resistance, particularly if the values are stored in the registry for easy editing.
Failing that, you'll probably have to wait until someone releases an unofficial patch to remove the requirement. EA thinks gamers, in general, are stupid and thus has been stepping up the requirements checking on their latest products. Unfortunately, most companies tend to forget about us laptop gamers or the specific drivers and part number support isn't completely realized yet. You will likely get nothing but copy and paste canned responses from EA. Try contacting the developer directly. Otherwise, if you're going to contact EA, at least waste $50 of their time to get even with them.
Personally, I'd return the game, but unfortunately you're going to have a hassle on your hands no matter what choice you make. Returning is a pain, particularly if purchased from Gamestop, and waiting without knowing if the game will ever be playable on your system is also a pain.Good luck!
-
I bought and installed this game last night.
It plays extremely well on my machine. I would estimate low FPS in the 30 range because there was nary a stutter. I'll run FRAPS tonight. -
Yeah, okay I got it working in XP. I noticed that in Vista 32/64 the modded inf drivers caused some games to report the driver version as 2048mb or null, which was odd to say that least. But in xp the same driver version did correctly report all of the card's information.
I'll keep working on this. -
Thanks, please let me know if you find a vista solution.
Good luck. -
Actually that can't be what is happening with me because I tried using factory drivers too, which don't require modded infs.
-
So that folder of data I gave you made no difference?
-
no, unfortunately not
-
Factory drivers would probably be too old, so that's a moot point.
Anyways, I'm reinstalling 64bit again, will have an update as soon as I get it reloaded. -
thanks....

Check and post on the Dead Space forums, not here!
Apparently I don't meet the requirements for deadspace...
