Wow, so with dual boot on the intel macs, playing games like Oblivion etc on Macs should be a nice experience. What do you guys think?

Yeah it will. Oblivion will be on Macs in not too long anyways though. Every popular game does eventually, it just takes a couple months longer than the PC version. However Oblivion isn't announced yet. It will fairly soon I'm sure.

Agreed. It should look very nice on the macs now (although it would have been just fine before)

I'd personally never buy a mac for games. The choice is too limiting and all those great, free games on the web for windows won't work!

Question: couldn't you just Dump MacOS and reformat with windows in the past? Some people might think that it would be stupid to buy a mac if you werent gonna run macOS but their harware is nice (if not a little overpriced)

if you want to do that, save a few hundred $$ and go with something else..the only reason to have a MBP, is for Tiger..i dont see any other reason to shell out a few hundred more for a shiny notebook.

How is the MacBook Pro overpriced? You get a 15.4" machine that weighs less than 6 lbs, Has the Core Duo processor, and an ATI Mobility X1600.

The only other comparable system is the Acer TravelMate8204, which comes wiith *slower* RAM, *doesn't* have lighted keys or the MagSafe power connector, no SPDIF output, and annoyingly blows hot air on your mouse-hand.

And these two systems (with the same processor speed, hard drive size etc) cost the SAME, but the MacBook has more features and is better-designed.

So how can you say it's overpriced? I'd like to buy one and ONLY put Windows on it because it's the best-featured mid-size laptop on the market right now. I'm just waiting for those 3D ATI drivers to get written and to hear some performance specs on the latest games.

Yea, that looks nice too. Although I wish they'd gone for a 15.4" screen instead of a 14"; that extra inch and a half makes a big difference.
I also note from that website you pointed out:

"ETA for the second shipment is likely Mid-May or later."

If I'm still in the market then, I'll be shopping for a dual-core Turion notebook. :)

Don't buy a Mac for games. . they're overpriced ( my opinion) to begin with. You can get a lot better Windows-based notebook designed to play games. They will have much better performance.

If you want to play games, buy a Windows machine. No way around that if you plan to play games. The primary purpose of buying a mac is so you can run the 'OSX'.

I know its too soon to ask this... but I am curious as to whether there will there be a significant difference when running a game on the MBP and another PC laptop (Both with 256mb x1600) ?

MacBooks tend to score around 2900-3000 not OCed in 3DMark05, whereas a comparable notebook such as the AcerTM8200 scores 4000-4100 not OCed.

Reguarding games for Mac - if you were going to game, I'd ONLY do it in "Windows-mode". Mac games are way overpriced (IMO) and don't have a wide selection.

The Windows machine will be faster - macs don't have 'entirely' the same hardware as a real Windows notebook does.

Go with Windows and a non-mac to game.
