What's up everyone. I've been trying to overclock my Go 7600 for ages now. AtiTools, Rivatuner, and Coolbits don't work. They keep resetting my overclock frequencies. I test the frequencies then save them, but it keeps reverting back to stock frequencies. I'm using an hp dv8339us if that is of any help. After searching around the forums, it looks like some people can overclock their laptops, but I can't. I'm beginning to think that the option is somehow locked in the bios somewhere.

you should install the newest driver, then try to overclock again, I'm using 97.92 from laptopvideo2go.com

That's the current driver that I'm using, but the overclocks still reset. I've tried other drivers, but the same thing happens.

what do you mean overclock still resets? If you turn off the overclocking software and restart you laptop, it would surely reset. Or do you mean i resets right after you overclock, which results in no performance gain?
btw, try powerstrip as well, i'm surprised that ATItool works with nVIDIA cards

Try using Coolbits again, and when you OC just click the box "Apply these settings at startup".

@crappyGPU: It resets right after I overclock even if I save the settings. I also tried to use powerstrip, but right after I apply the settings, there is the "critical stop" sound and the clocks reset.
@csinth: I've tried checking the "apply these settings at startup", but that doesn't work either.

The likely culprit is your BIOS. I ran into this same issue back in the day when I owned a dv8000t (back when they were first released with Go 7400s). Later BIOS revisions released by HP actually disabled the ability to save your Cool Bits settings. I think I remember having to roll back to the original BIOS it came with to restore my OC.

DrewN, do you have any idea where I can download that BIOS? I've also thought that the culprit was the BIOS. Is there some way I can edit the BIOS?

You need to go to your software/drivers page on HP's website for the dv8339us to look for older versions of your BIOS. This is it, I think.

If you have the oldest version and it still doesn't work, then you may be SOL. All I have to say is...there are several reasons why I ditched HP, little stuff like this just pushed me over the edge. But that is neither here nor there ;)

Not sure about editing the BIOS, btw, hopefully an advanced member can jump in and help.

EDIT: You did ask this, so here is the download page for the dv8000t. The version I used was the original BIOS, which was F08. But then again, I had a dv8000t with Core Duo 2.0 Ghz and Go7400, which likely has a different motherboard than your notebook.

HP only has the F.22 version of the BIOS on their website and that's the one I'm using right now. The previous BIOS didn't work for me either. I searched the forums and I found this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=58791

I tried to download the BIOS indicated in the thread(f.09a), but that doesn't work either. :(

Older bios is indeed the trick. I think the f.16 is what i use and I have the install file backed up. I'm not on my notebook at the moment, but if you PM me with your email, I'll send you a copy of it asap. I haven't had any adverse effects from using the older bios and I've been running my machine that way for 6+ months.

DrewN, thanks for the link to the BIOS, but F.08 doesn't work either. The frequencies still reset(sigh). If the f.08 bios worked for you, I don't see why it's not working for me. Is it possible that something else could be causing the problem? (I still think it's the BIOS)

Hmm. It may have been a BIOS/driver combination, but bear in mind again I had a 7400 Go. I definintely remember having to roll back my BIOS to the BIOS right before official 7600 Go support. But then again I never updated my graphics drivers either, so it may have been a combination of both.

I just checked the dv8000t driver page, and I used the 8.3.2.0 A HP drivers. Not sure if this will work for you.

Wintrymix has the same video card as you, so he may be better able to assist. Perhaps let you know which Nvidia drivers he's using as well.

(thanks btw wintrymix, this is how forums should be, with helpful people such as you :) )
