So, I bought my Acer TravelMate 5520 notebook a few months ago. It came with Vista, I changed the OS to XP Professional and upgraded my RAM to 2GB.

Everything has worked well and I'm pleased with my notebook, except for one thing... I'm quite sure that with decent drivers for the IGP (ATI Radeon Xpress 1250) my system would have a "nice" performance boost.
I have downloaded the latest drivers I have found from the Acer Support site, where they are named "ATI VGA 8.383" or something and they date back to June. I have searched ATi's website throughoutly a few times but I even haven't found an email address where I could send mail concerning this matter...

I have also tried various drivers from ATI, but none of them has worked. The installation process stops when the installer whines about not supported hardware.
Also, OmegaDrivers have not worked, even though they advertise that they work on all ATI cards. At least they were installed to my computer, and after boot XP did not recognize them, which was the end for them.

I lurked a lot at this forum for this same matter but I did not yet find a depressing answer enough. Are there newer drivers for Xpress 1250 available have ATi stopped updating this card, because ATi merged with AMD?

    Thanks a bunch!

After a few minor problems last night I managed to install the drivers and Team Fortress 2 played much better than before.
This morning I started playing Episode Two, but it gives me a blue screen and then boots my system. I'll try reinstalling the drivers now. I will report my further progress to this post later.

Hi. What progress did you make snaked? Got it going? One thing I'd like to point out is that Vista drivers will keeping maturing and getting better with each driver release. You'll find that the performance you get should increase over time.

I have now Windows XP Pro as my OS. Yesterday I downloaded both XP and Vista versions of the Catalyst 7.10 drivers. The Vista drivers didn't install at all to my notebook, but the XP drivers did.

Compared to my old drivers, 7.10 drivers gave me about a 10fps boost and much smoother feeling in TF2, which I longed for and that was great.
HL2: Episode One works with no problems, and so does Mythos Beta (online RPG developed by Flagship Studios).
The only problem so far is HL2: Episode Two. The game launches and I can browse the menus with no problems, but when I try to move or do anything myself in-game, in 15 seconds the screen freezes for max. 2 seconds and Windows gives me a blue screen and boots the system.

I'm not sure if it's only me, or has someone else had any problems with Catalyst 7.10 and Episode Two. Before I installed the 7.10 drivers my Episode Two worked "well", which means that it didn't crash, but I had a nice wallhack where I could see through all walls.

I am not sure how Yokozuna got the Vista drivers working in his XP, but maybe I will try the Vista drivers again when a new update of Catalyst will be released.

I wasn't able to find any information on the Catalyst 7.10 drivers being related to Episode 2 crashing; I'm thinking it is the game. Try putting all settings at their lowest and see if it does the same thing. If that does not work then I suggest reinstalling the game.

I didn't, sorry for the confusion. I'm running XP with the 7.10 XP drivers. I just pointed you to the Vista 7.10 drivers under the assumption that you were using Vista, and that the drivers would install correctly in Vista, as the XP drivers did for me in XP.
