I'm wondering if I should buy an alienware with the nvidia 7950 (I think it is? 512 mb card) now or wait til christmas, but I don't know if there are any new cards that people are expecting to come out?

better idea to wait. alienware tends to put the uberhigh end things in the higher end notebooks...and on their website they've magically removed many of the notebooks with high graphics cards which leads me to believe that they might be planning to upgrade soon. i mean seriously what kind of major computer site has two options for notebooks? 8800m's are probably gonna come out by holiday season.

I see, thanks for the insight shinakuma, I'll try to hold off as long as possible xD At least until Crysis comes out haha. Any idea when the official holiday season starts and when companies unveil what they're selling for the rest of the year?

The 8800m/8700Ultra SHOULD be out by then,, but I can't see how it's worth the $$ seeing as the 9 series of mobile cards SHOULD be out by spring following Nvidia's trend..

And I think I heard something that Nvidia claims 4x faster this time with the 9 series over the 8 series.. That's a big claim.. and we'll see :D

yea but nvidia always takes this route and releases the good gpu for notebooks just when they're releasing the next gpu for desktops...if i had to wait i wouldn't even get a gpu. though 9 series are supposed to get what like 1TF i think? i'll be happy if they can stop being anal and give us the 8800m already.

The 9600GT should be as good as the 8800GTS, or even GTX according to the 4x stattement

GF9 will also have free AA and AF

That's just a guess based on the supposed "4x faster" statement, which wasn't made by JCMS, it's been floating around for a while now (maybe fudzilla first reported it?) It's likely incorrect however.

Fudzilla is now saying that G92 is going to be 8800GT, i.e. not as good as 8800GTS/GTX

the first high end graphics cards of the 9 series will be almost 50% faster than the current high end graphics of the 8 series. I can't find the source, but that's more likely to believe ;)
