I mean shooters that have the following attributes:

    - singleplayer focused
    - non-linear
    - good graphics
    - realistic

I only played it single player, and i thouraly enjoyed it, it`s a massive games, with millions of guns, it`s a couple of years old now so you should get it quite cheap.

I ordinaly bought it for the pc, and then bought it for my xbox 360 as well.

    I cannot wait for Boarderland 2 :)

MP is more fun. But it's still one of the best SP shooter experiences IMO. The dialogue, quests, etc are all good fun.

Far Cry 2 meets all of the above. It isn't without fault, but it's still an involving shooter.

Borderlands eventually gets a bit grind-y...there's only so many ever-stronger bandits and skags you can shoot right in the face with ever-stronger guns before it all starts to feel a bit familiar. But still, for the $5-$10 you can probably find it for nowadays, it's absolutely worth it. Good atmosphere, smooth gameplay.

Borderlands is focused on cooperative play, with cell shaded graphics, and next to no realism. It couldn't be further from the OP's requirements.

Far Cry 2 is horribly repetitive and decidedly linear even if the developers said otherwise. Nowhere near Crysis and not recommended.

I tried to like far cry 2...but never really liked it. Didn't like the location, and all the crap you had to deal with (malaria)

The sandbox style gameplay is fairly unique... far cry 2 is pretty open world, and I don't think it was nearly as bad as some say :D

I actually loved the african setting a lot, thought it was very unique.

Have you played half-life 2? Very similar to crysis in terms of setting, but not sandbox at all (but trust me you won't notice it :D)

Just find a mod to get rid of the malaria thing and the constantly respawning enemies at just cleared checkpoints and enemy jeeps that are always ten times faster than your own.

eh...just watched a youtube clip of farcry 2 and I just don't like the look of the game. Not gonna bother...I've tried to like it 3 times in the past...its going into my dogpile.

I guess there aren't really any true crysis like games :(

I'll just stick to crysis, warhead, and crysis 2.

which makes it entirely different imo

the suit allows alot more tactical play...and firefights last slightly longer. the environment also becomes a bigger factor with the suits abilities.

How is the original poster defining "realistic"? I mean, didn't Crysis involve aliens and a nano-suit with four special modes? That's not what I think of when I think of "realistic."

bulletstorm is really good, nice gameplay but not sandbox though, well borderlands at least makes the cut, the MP is fun, if you play solo its also good, some quests here and there, loot items etc. its actually more of a rpg imo.

i would like to add fallout 3 and fallout new vegas in this thread. those games are also classed as shooter (err..yeah its kinda hard if your character is a melee type :D)

I'll throw in a recommendation for the original Far Cry. It's a sort of spiritual predecessor to Crysis. If you can get past the dated graphics, it's a solid game.

And I'll second reaversedge's recommendation of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. They're RPG-shooter hybrids, but even if you don't like RPG's, you can more or less play them as pure shooters and just dump all your level-up skill points into relevant weapon skills. :p They are quite immersive and relatively open-ended, and there's plenty of stuff to do. Fallout universe lore is pretty interesting as well.

Yes, but at least Crysis retained an aspect of realism with the environment, effects, physics etc. Many people regard Crysis as photorealistic. Borderlands is the polar opposite, whichever way you look at it.

Far Cry 2 is no more repetitive than any other game which entails driving vehicles, shooting etc. At least you can approach missions as you see fit, by employing a multitude of strategies.

repetitive in terms of types of missions (go kill this bandit lord, go sack this fort... etc) ALSO it is a pure shooter, no puzzles whatsoever, more like a hack-and-shooter type game :D

It's kind of dumb that enemies respawn at outposts basically as soon as you're out of visual range, but otherwise I agree. And people that are complaining about the malaria aspect clearly didn't play much of the game, if they played it at all. It's not like you have to take pills constantly.

I have had enemy`s suddenly appear out of know where in front of my in Crysis 2, it does not do much for the realism, I still love the game though.

I agree. Although I didn't mind malaria, enemy respawn + them chasing on jet-jeeps made it really annoying. Even self repeating mission wasn't a problem. And I really enjoyed the setting.

The setting was nice indeed, I did enjoy the malaria for some reason :) however resurrecting (yes this time it is faster than respawning, they are basically the same soldiers :D) enemies and jeeps were a major pain in the neck...

I do love the Crysis series and have played them both on PC and consoles, but the Battlefield series is completely amazing to me. The integration of vehicles into a modern FPS just adds a whole new level of play on the battlefield. Call of Duty has become a photocopy of the previous instalment....

I am going to get Bulletstorm as soon as my finances allow, I just hope it plays as good as it looks.

I am not a big fan of squad based games, the type you have to control everything the squad does.

There is one game i love to play on the PS3 is the Resistance series, but i don't have a PS3 at the moment and Resistance 3 looks great.

The STALKER games meet the above requirements, though the shooting mechanics at first are kind of weird, and the AI is.. well, meh.

Rage might also fit your description, but I haven't tried it yet.

I love FPS games starting from the original Half Life, and Quake series. Then theres the FEAR series and the Unreal FPS not the tournament games. Serious Sam is kinda fun if you like shooting things but the never ending screaming is more than annoying. The Doom series is great to tech you to run and gun and how to get excellent control of your character without dieing.
