Are there any advantages to buying via Steam vs. at a retail shop?

I'm going to be purchasing the Orange Box soon (my old computer couldn't play it), and I was wondering if there was any difference to buying the Steam version vs. the retail store version. The only thing I can see is that the retail version comes with discs; is there anything else, esp. with regards to DRM stuff?

    Thanks.

The retail version of the Orange Box will still need to be registered on Steam and runs from it (goes for all Valve games as well as some others like Modern Warfare 2) so both the retail and Steam versions of this game are absolutely functionally identical.

    All right, thanks!

Guess I'll buy the retail version, then, just to have the DVDs.

Keep in mind for Steam games, you can back them up onto DVDs so in case of an event like a hard drive failure, you don't have to redownload your bought Steam games all over again.

Yes, there was a sale on Steam not too long ago where it was only $10.

The question is always...When will it come again?

I just want to play Team Fortress 2...But it is a better deal just to buy it with Half-Life 2....

I can wait...I have other games to play :)

who knows. it could come tomorrow or in 3 months or a year or more.

the orange box is easily worth it at the price they are asking. all of HL2, TF2, and portal... each game in that box is stellar.
