    Hi guys,

I can't afford a full-blown gaming laptop, but I've located this Toshiba which may fit the bill. I'm deciding whether to buy it, or pour the money into an Xbox 360.

Are there any games that this Toshiba *can't* play? Or are there any games it couldn't play well enough to justify buying it?

Do you think it would be able to play Crysis, even at low settings?

    Here are the key specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, 1.67ghz
    2GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 2600

    Thanks everyone.

That laptop looks good, but the processor is a bit slow (compared to T7x00 series). I would recommend looking into Dell Vostro/Inspiron series. You will be able to get an equivalent laptop and might come with a better price tag

That laptop will play today's games with medium to low settings just fine.

As far as XBox 360, you will never have to worry about looking at specs when picking up latest games.

Actually, I'm looking at a sealed box Toshiba (the model above) for about $1070, so it would be considerably cheaper than any comparable Dell.

Do you guys think the Toshiba could play Crysis?

Yes, it will play all current games. Crysis should be playable around 1280x800 DX9 mode with medium-high settings, if the demo is any indication.

What makes me doubt myself is that I ran the "systemrequirements" test on a laptop very similar to this Toshiba at BestBuy today and it said Crysis wouldn't play on it!!! Under "processing power" it said that Crysis needed "multiple cores at 2ghz or higher"

Crysis will indeed play, your processor is simply not optimum. I'd recommend upgrading eventually.

If gaming is your main concern I would say go with the 360 and a get a cheaper laptop with a better CPU.

Well my current laptop is quite dandy at 2ghz (Core Duo) and 1gb with a 7200rpm 100gb HD. It just doesn't have a GPU!

The game he's talking about isn't for a console.

That thing hasn't done very well when I've tried it. I'm not sure whether it just has issues with laptops or something else, but certainly from what has been posted about the HD2600, it's as good or possibly even better than the 8600M GT, which on my laptop has no issues with the Crysis demo at medium settings, 1200x980 (or resolutions thereabout). We could expect the performance to be even better with the finished game.
