Does anyone know if there are any laptops available today with Mobility Radeon 4830, 4850, 4860, or 4870 graphics chips?

The OP's current FX 3700M with GTX 280M or 9800M GTX consumer drivers would be around equal to even the best current ATI card (HD 4870)...

I love my FX3700! I'm trying to find a gaming laptop for a buddy who is not a computer geek like us :) I have scoped out an ASUS 260M system that looks good, but I wanted to compare prices to some of the Radeon 48xx machines. BTW, why would I want to run consumer drivers on the FX3700, the Quadro drivers are working great...

Yes, it's a nVidia 260M, P8700 CPU, 6GB RAM, 1600x900 17" screen. My friend's price target is around $1000, If anyone knows of a better gaming laptop for that price please chime in...

There's nothing else close to that Asus in his price range, so tell him to get that.

There's also the Gateway 7908U, but I don't like Gateway.

But then again, Gateway has way better cooling, so maybe get that instead.

Ya nothing wrong with gateway, their FX line is pretty much top notch, cant say the build quality is the best but at that price one sacrifice had to be made.
