I got a laptop, but it wasn't what I expected at ALL.

    Here's the specs.

    Intel® Celeron® 540 (1MB cache/1.86GHz/533Mhz FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista ® Home Basic Edition edit
HD DISPLAY Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
VIDEO CARD Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
MEMORY 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz

Will I be able to play games at all?

OF course, you can play free cell maxed out. Games from... 2002 and back you should be able to play pretty well.

Most likely not, but of any integrated graphics set this is the best. Perhaps on mostly lowest settings if anything.

That laptop will only play the simplest of games. If you paid for it and wish to game, I would suggest you return it and select a laptop with a more powerful CPU, GPU, as well as more RAM.

How much was that POS? Considering the Gateway FX 6831 was on sale for 1199 not so long ago for a pretty damn good lappie - he must have majorly $low-balled$ that buy.

Some friend the OP has, consider taking out a contract for breach of trust.

Like the others have said the system is only capable of playing games released 3-4 years ago.

Well if he says it can then maybe it can.
DO you have an x3100 to claim that it cannot run it?

"Claims" on the internet are not very useful because everyone is anonymous. On the internet, we need sources. :D

There have also been a lot of people on these forums who have spammed ridiculous claims about the power of their integrated graphics.

So if someone wants to say something like "my x3100 can run COD4 with good FPS"... it doesn't sound logical so they need to get some screenshots to back up their point.

To the OP: Try to return that thing as soon as possible, before your 21 days are up. And tell off your friend for making such a dumb mistake. :p

i don't see how you can enjoy CoD4 with everything turned off. yeah it still has good gameplay mechanics but taking out the whole immersion factor simply doesn't do CoD4 justice IMO.

Nah the x3100 will handle UT2004 fine, its the CPU that I'm concern.

When I was benchmarking the X3100 for my review, UT2004 was actually one of the games it really excelled with.

The X3100 isn't actually HORRIBLE, but the drivers need a lot of work and it can be really hit and miss.

Good luck with the X3100, you can play CS 1.6 at native Res, some halo, and those are probably the most enjoyable experiences you'll have with that card...

That really isnt a gaming laptop, how much did it cost you/your friend?

Does this make sense to any of you?
I could run Guild Wars pretty much maxed @1440x900 with 2xAA at around 20 FPS,
But Halo 1 has trouble going into 800x600 maxed along with other games.
    Is there a reasonable explaination?
I havn't played GW for ages and only installed it to see how well it would run and now I'm annoyed because I dont play it but its the only game that can run really nicely.
