I've recently been wondering if anyone else with a fairly decent laptop has managed to get Armed Assault working at an acceptable frame rate with details around medium, as I have yet to do that.

I mean, I would have assumed a 7900GS would be enough, but even when I turn down the resolution substantially, ArmA still performs badly/not well enough. I'll post some screenies up here when I get a chance, and I'm using the EU 1.05 version of the game too, I'm just extremely shocked to see ArmA run so poorly after hearing about various optimisations the developers made for it.

Also, from what I've noticed ArmA automatically limits your FPS to certain figures, e.g. when I play it keeps rounding down to 20 FPS and stays like that for a while, but never/very rarely rises above 20FPS. If anyone has had experiences with ArmA I'd love to see where I might be going wrong.

    I play ArmA @ 1280x800, all settings low/very low. I get about 25fps. I hit 30 if I overclock. I'm using a 128MB X1400.

I don't know what could be causing your bad performance, the 7900GS should get better than that.

Sounds like one hell of a crappy optimised game. I had thought they had fixed that...

Yeah, I'm going to try and take your advice Lysander and put everything down to a minimum and go up in quality bit by bit and try to keep frame rates high, but yeah I was as surprised as you HavoK to find out that their optimisation was a little poor. Seems like an extremely long shot but I wonder if it is possible to hack the FPS limiter and disable it? I mean I wouldn't know where to start, but I reckon it's one of the things limiting performance.
