I am totally new to overclocking, and when I edited the registry to enable coolbits and set to autoclock and then ran 3dmark05, I got a blue screen after a minute and a half. Is this because I set it too autoclock and it just out did itself? And if so what core and memory clock setting is safe to use.

what speeds did you get up to. i dont know about nvidia cards but with ati the screen just goes blank or freezes when you out-do yourself..not a blue screen.

i guess you might double check you have the latest version of drivers and coolbits =/ im not too sure what it could be.

What clock speeds were you running 3DMarks at? Is this a new notebook?

And the colorful dots are known as artifacting.

How do I get rid of the artifacting? Its like in random places

I just want everything to go back to normal
I wonder if I blew out the core

Ya so, like the title it crashed, and there is some minor artifacting when I watch videos, and pretty severe when I play a game like 2142 or source. Is there a way to get rid of the artifacting? Or is my core just %^$ed lol

    do you overlock your GPU?

turn off the autooverclock and go back to regular clocks. autooverclock is a bad feature. you need to do it manually and do a search on these forums to make sure you're more knowlegable about overclocking before you do it again.

Definitely restore your clock settings to the default. Can you tell us what clock settings the auto-settings set it at?

    core is 450MHz

    Memory is 350 MHz

maybe I should let it cool over night and reinstall the drivers?

I tried too, I auto clocked it because thats what i read to do for beginners then tested it, and it crashed Geforce Go 7600. I turned the clocking off

Hard set your core/mem speeds back to their default and reboot.

What system do you have? 450/350 doesn't strike me as high at all. But not all GPUs have the same overclocking ability, so there's that to consider.

with coolbits, the best method I've found is to set manual overclocking, then test for optimal frequencies at least 3 times, if none of them seem absurd, go with the last one, or the slowest, its your call, and then benchmark to see your results, and adjust as needed or desired

Ok im pretty sure the card is fried. I see no artifacting on the desktop. But when I open up battlefield, and join a server its like... beyond artifacting, everything is like stretched and blurry cant see anything. Kind of scary actually

Ok, I used coolbits, and went to benchmark it on 3dmark05, and it crashed (blue screen) the hardware stopped working it said or something like that. Subsequently, after this I see severe artifacting when I join a game like bf 2142 or source. Ive let it cool over night, turned off the OC, reinstalled the drivers. As it is now, its set at at core 450MHz, and memory at 350MHz. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is it fried. I set autoclock when I ran 3dmark05.
I guess my 6600 isnt that bad,if I need to put that back in

I dont get why you guys can push it so hard and nothing happens but when I do it freaking melts lol

you autooverclocked, you didn't do it manually. i think autoOC pushes it harder than necessary. how do you know yours melted? did you smell it? i mean it should be obvious if you blew your card. did you go back to stock clocks like we told you to and you still get artifacting?

Yeah that's a prime symptom you fried it with your OC. On the desktop, the graphics are handled by GDI, which I believe is driven mainly by your CPU with some hardware acceleration from the GPU. Since most of the 3D functionality is not needed on the desktop, you would have no problems there. Once you get into a game, it's a whole new ballpark.

So in short, good luck with the warranty. Word of advice: don't mention overclocking.

Unfortunately your other GPU will not work in your HEL80. Have you tried going back to default clock settings?

Also, please refrain from cross-posting all over the place with the same issue. It adds to clutter in the forums. I have merged the discussion into one thread for you, where you will get the most help.
