I'm interested in this laptop, and since its classified as a gaming laptop, I thought of posting it here.
I need this for everyday use for college, so, you know, the standard stuff, Word, etc, etc.
Now onto my question:
Will this be able to run games like BioShock 2, Mass Effect 2, and similar games on high settings?
Any recommendations?

With a good Core 2 Duo (or Quad) and a GTX 260M, it should have absolutely no trouble with those games at native res and high settings.

Best Buy G60vx, right? Since it has 720p resolution, you can game at native with most everything turned up.
-
That's awesome. I really want this laptop, but that battery life has me on the brink.
Do you guys have any other laptops with similar specs, and hopefully a lower price in mind? -

There you go, then. I can run vanilla Crysis at native, everything high except very high textures and medium shadows, and I get maybe 35 FPS average.
Granted, my CPU is different and I've clocked my GPU up, but hey. -
Getting an itch to buy it! Never had an Asus before, but I hear they're really well built and have cool features.

Indeed they do. Expressgate and Power4Gear are especially nice.
Just be warned, they do run warm. They don't shut off from overheating, but in the long run it's going to affect the life of the machine. -
So, I'll just out BioSHock 2 on PC, since it will most likely be better than the console versions.
But other than that and future games, it'll just be a Mianstream, everyday computer I'll use. -
OP, have you posted a thread in the "What Notebook I Should Buy" section?

Hmm. So you're an everyday user who occasionally games, as opposed to a gamer who occasionally does everyday stuff [on that particular machine].
Are you deadset on the G60? -
Asus is rock solid. I'm using their 1201N netbook right now.

If you're only buying for Bioshock 2, there's no need to get the GTX 260M. Might as well get Bioshock 2 on the Xbox 360 and get a laptop without discrete graphics. Your battery life problems will be solved and you'll spend a lot less (or get a much better CPU for the price of a G60VX).

The Ul80vt-A1 is a good choice for light gaming, since it has excellent battery life, a smaller form factor, and the Asus warranty.
But if you do hope to play future games, then stick with the G60. -

I'm just saying that if you don't need the GTX 260M, there are other notebooks with better CPUs and worse GPUs out there for the same price.
The P-7908u is a great option, because of the P8700, but it's $1000. Something with a Mobility Radeon 4650 DDR3 and a P8700 should be adequate for the occasional game, and it costs $850 instead of $1000. Mind you though, it'll only be little more than half as fast as a GTX 260M. -
I can garantee a good laptop with a decent GPU will apserlutely put your 360 away in the wardrobe,
Mine is now dusty.

And some games offer no 360 gamepad support, like Mass Effect 2 -

The reason why it's "only" fifty dollars less is because it has the full-on Asus warranty. The Best Buy versions do not come with warranty.
And the UL80vt I showed you isn't at Best Buy either. It's online resellers only. Go with GenTech. -

Does anyone know if I can buy another battery to replace the crappy one that comes with this computer?
-
i would recommend the ASUS G73... it has core i7 , ATI 5870 card , which is fastest mobile card , full hd screen and blue ray and 8GB RAM... and its $1600... u'd nver get a deal like this... worth the extra investment... it will last longer too and should run cooler... with bigger chasis and less heat than G60...
-
Its a bit too expensive.
-
well then ASUS G60VX... but don't regret buying it later on when u see ppl playing DirectX 11 games... if u don't have the cash now , wait a while for the price to drop and get a similar laptop otherwise get the G60VX... ur choice really.
AsAsus G60VX for some games and everyday use
