70 isn't bad for gaming. But a cooler will help reduce that.

My OC'ed 9650M GT runs with 75 C when playing Mass Effect 2, so I'm suprised that your 8600m runs only at 70 C -

yeah, 8xxx series are known for their heat issue, i doubt that's an accurate value underload.

My old 8600M was often at 90 .

    Even 100 sometimes.

70 is really not that bad AT ALL...

my 9600M GT hits 85C sometimes when playing games and for a 8600M GT , those are good temps...it might also be inaccurate... use speedfan or CPUID Hardware Montior to see max temps in gaming...

thank you very much for the answer,
woaa.., it's suprise me i think 70 degree is very hot.

that's cool considering it's 13 inch thin form factor.
i like the notebook itself because of its portablility and less weight for gaming.
it will be pointless if i must carry notebook cooler all the time.

maybe the temperature cool down because i slide the bar in riva tuner (underclock) all to the min. but still every game still very playable and i feel no performance downgrade or lag at all.

see? no notebook cooler at all.

the battery is 3 hours. where i can find undervolt tutorial? both cpu and gpu?
or can i turn off the gpu or any component for better battery life when not in gaming?

is it safe to use bios mod to adjusting the gpu or cpu?

    thanks :) :)

Wow Sean....85 C? the temp is still safe, but 9600m should not reach such temps, even when OC'd ..... then again, I may be wrong :)

Use RivaTuner or HWMonitor, I have found them to be the most accurate. <90C is normal for the 8600M GT, >90C begins to cause concern, and >100C is not good at all. I would suggest a cooler for heavy gaming, utilizing powermizer to automatically downclock the card, and testing out the latest drivers to better reduce heat/issues. You may also want to clean your vents every 3-6 months.

hey man my 8600MGT is at 51 degrees right now, about 65 when gaming.

I opened my laptop and cleared the dust out of the heatsink and its a massive improvement.

    Mine (see sig) runs at...

50C Right now (web browsing + youtube)
    62C High load, stock clocks
    64C High load, ~12% overclocked
    67C High load, ~22% overclocked

Using official 186.82 drivers, no cooling pad, CPU is undervolted which indirectly improved overall cooling. Last dust cleaning was a couple months ago.

70C should be plenty safe, but try a couple different programs that monitor temps to make sure it's accurate since often a program will be off by a few degrees.

I have an old Inspiron 1520, and my temps only reach around 65 degrees C max when doing some heavy gaming. before I cleaned out the dust in my laptop, I was in the high 70's. not entirely sure about your case, but maybe you just need to clean some dust out of your computer

Mine idles at around 67 - 71 C under Windows XP. Averages around 86C when playing games. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't died on me yet, considering how it's supposedly defective, and how often I stress it out.

Actually 70C load temp for the 8600M GT GDDR2 card is fairly common. Mine maxed at only 75C and that was after I had taken the core to 580mhz, shader to 1400mhz and the memory to 530mhz. Now that card still died so I recommend never OCing this card even if your temps peak at 70C :p

edit; my bad now I see you have the GDDR3 version. 70C is really good for that card haha

I own 8600M on a different system where I used to game, and my temperature was 50C idle and wouldn't go above 56C when gaming. Those at stock speeds of course.

    Wow.
My ASUS G1S-A1 with the huge chassis that weighs almost as much as 17" laptops had a 8600M GT GDDR3 (it died, already) used to run at 105 Celsius in a cleaned out notebook. Right now the 9500M GS GDDR2 that they replaced the burned card with also reaches like 90 Celsius. You have a 13.3" with a 8600M GT GDDR3 that's at 70 degrees? My goodness. My chip used to IDLE at 73.

if i'm looking correctly, ur clocks seem to be downclocked.. is it temporary or what? Can u check u stock clocks under NVDIA control pannel's system information? That downclocking might be the answer for his wonderful temps :)

It's probably just because of powermizer, it auto-downclocks whenever you aren't doing something like running a 3D game, but it uses the max clocks when under load.

    yep i do enable powermizer.

i try to do downclocking. and here's the result :
    PRETTY BIG SUCCESSS
thank you all :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

it's look like the 8600 GT stock clock is overkill to my usual light gaming (telltale, left4dead, cs, dota, etc)

downclocking to the lowest but still there are no lag at all. the fps is acceptable. don't see any difference with faster stock clock.

the temperature for playing telltale games used to 78 - 70 now down to 60 and still without notebook cooler.
great feel. such a great machine performance / portability that i have consider this notebook only 13 inch
and weight under 1.5 kilos (3.3 lbs).

    thank you all.
do this downclocking extend battery life too?

again. million thanks :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Nice temps! The 8600m GT in my Macbook pro regularly hovers around 70 degrees Celsius at Idle and 85-92 degrees Celsius while gaming. I once saw it go above 100 degrees Celsius when I was playing Supreme Commander on two monitors.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have a computer that I can't fry eggs on.

lol my comp had same problems... GPU used to hit 80C +++ ... CPU hit 100C... had to get notebook cooling pad and undervolt CPU... temps are now 70-80C for processor and GPU... but for GPU i did a tweak because powermixer didn't work and caused heat problems... see this thread...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456313

This fix dropped my GPU temps to 70-75C from 80-85C when GPU was overclocked and playing games... weird but true!

70 degrees is the perfect temperature. There's absolutely no cause for concern
