So im looking for a laptop to just do some casual lounging around looking on the internet and playing a few games and the laptop i am thinking of getting is http://www.simplyacer.com/Acer_Aspire_5920G-303G25Mi_535473.html
its the best one i have found for this price and i was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this laptop? the only games i play are World of Warcraft and the odd old game so i dont need a super powerfull laptop.

so in the end is this worth getting or is there a beter one i can find for the same price?

    Thanks!

8600mGS isn't a strong card but it will play most games at low/medium settings :)

    I loved my 5920G when i had it :D

Thanks for the replys and i hear that this card can be overclocked to be above the GT version? i think i saw a 3Dmarks score of 4100 somewhere on an overclocked 8600m gs. is this true?

It probably can in a laptop where it runs more cool.

The 5920G runs at about 69'c idle though.

According to the graphics comparison on notebookcheck.net the graphics card in this performs better then the 8600m GS, so i am wondering if this would be a better choice for gaming? and i also hear the AMD Turion X2 Dual Core is better then the Intel Core 2 Duo Santa-Rosa but i would just like to get all your opinions on this laptop compared to the one i originally posted.

    Thanks

The GPU, yeah, maybe better than the 8600M GS, though the CPU..I think the Santa Rosa has 4MB L2 Cache? While the AMD only has 1MB.. Someone told me (I'm open for corrections :D) that the higher your L2 Cache is, the better your CPU would multi-task, although as I can see that gaming is higher in your list perhaps the 5530G would be a better choice. :D

turions and core 2 duos have very different architechture, so it's unhelpful to compare them like that. a 2ghz turion is about the same as a 1.8ghz c2d.

Get the Acer Aspire 5530G instead if you intend to game. The Nvidia 8600M GS is only slightly better than the X1600/X1700/X2500/Go 7600/Go 7700. The HD 3650 on the other hand is about equal to the 8600M GT/9500M GS in term of gaming performance.

I tested Age of Empires 3, Battle for Middle Earth 2, Company of Heroes, F.E.A.R and DOOM 3 on the laptops listed below:-

    Acer 5502WXMI (X700 64MB DDR1) - Average gaming performance (low to medium settings @ 800x600 to 1024x 768 resolutions)

    Acer 5562WXMI (X1600 128MB DDR2) - Good gaming performance (medium settings @ 1024x768 to 1280x800 resolutions)

    Acer 4920G (X2500 256MB DDR2) - Identical gaming performance as the X1600 (medium settings @ 1024x768 to 1280x800 resolutions)

    Acer 5920G (8600M GT 256MB DDR2) - Good gaming performance (medium to high settings @ 1024x768 to 1280x800 resolutions)

    Asus A8Ja, Asus A6J(X1600 256MB DDR2) - Identical gaming performance as the X1600 128MB DDR2 (medium settings @ 1024x768 to 1280x800 resolutions)

    Asus G1S, Dell M1530 (8600M GT 256MB GDDR3) - Good gaming performance (medium to high settings @ 1280x800 resolution)

    Asus M50Sa (HD 3650 1024MB DDR2) - Good gaming performance (medium to high settings @ 1280x800 resolution)

    Asus G50 Vt (9800M GS 1024MB GDDR3) - Great for gaming (high settings @ 1680x1050 resolution)

    Benq S41 (8600M GS 256MB GDDR3) - Disappointing gaming performance. Almost identical performance as the X1600/Go 7600 (medium settings @ 1024x768 to 1280x800 resolutions)

Fujitsu S6010, IBM X31 (Intel integrated graphic) - Not for gaming

With those settings and resolutions, I constantly enjoyed a playable framerates of 20-30 FPS.
