C2Ds of any clock are pretty good.

    9700M GT is mid-range. 128-bit memory interface.

other than that, that system is fine.

The CPU is not that great but it's not going to bottleneck the 9700M GT that much. This laptop is very nice, and comes with Asus' nice warranty.

The 9700M GT is similar to the 8600GTS, it's still a very nice card on a 15.6'' for $1250.

The 9700m GT is basically a slightly-higher-clocked 8700m GT. (shaders only)

Has the same core clocks and memory clocks and the same number of shaders.

Expect the new core to be slightly better anyway and perhaps better heat management.

The real question is how fast will it work when OC'd....

NVIDIA doesn't have real specs for the 9700M GT that compare it to the 8 series. It's probably a new card that's a bit faster than the 8700M GT? It's definitely not the 8800M GTS.

Don't agree at all. Asus are nice, don't get me wrong, but the P-FX's have a fantastic build quality. As for warranty, I do think Asus wins in that department.

I don't know how accurate these numbers are... but if they are true, the 9700m GT is just barely higher clocked at stock than an 8700m GT.
Note my 8700m GT runs at higher than that, but I assume the 9700m GT will as well.

i'm on 7950GTX SLI as you see, and 2ghz Never bottlenecks me unless 3dMark06 is the "Gaming" scale, so 2ghz is more than enough.

hmmm so the difference between 9700m gt adn 9600m gt is 25 MHz on the core? and maybe ddr3 vs ddr2? how much difference can we see between the two?

I think we'll have to wait for a different model to get the 3D screen. I'm sure if the screen was 3D Asus would've said it was a 3D screen.

What do you mean? 9700m GT got a score of 6242 in 3DMark06 and the 9600m GT got a score of 4744.

I don't see anything about an Asus warranty. All I see is 1 year parts and labor, and it looks like its through Best Buy. Where does the Asus warranty come in?

Woops it's an X1 model. X1s don't come with Asus "goodies" (2 years warranty + 1 year accidental + 30 days no dead pixels + backpack + mouse)

I don't see how the 9700M GT can be so much better than the 8700M GT & 9600M GT. It has the same specs as the 8700M GT but its 65nm, it's clocked 25mhz higher than the 9600M GT and has mandatory GDDR3 memory. I'm pretty sure it's not clocked at 625/800 in the end.

was it from notebookcheck? could have been lower res. if not it is an 9700m GTS, cause it would have to have a 256bit bus

ahh possibly more stream processors as well. but if it is double the consumption of power it has a 256bit bus. it would have to have double the gpu and memory speeds to effectively make it equal a 256bit bus even though it is 128bit.

15.6" screen becuase it is the new 16:9 aspect ratio.

Its wider than the old 16:10

    AKA HI Def TV.

    I use a 16:9 on my desktop 1920x1080

the 16:10 version of that is 1920x1200

Its kinda good for console ports and movies as they use a 16:9 native usually.

Guys, you are aware that with a newer processor and overclocked, the 8700m GT is already getting scores in excess of 6242. (at 1280x1024)

Which one would win a fight when playing games:
    The Sager NP2096 (2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo + 9600m GT)
    or
the one mentioned (2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo + 9700m GT)

Does the difference in CPU matter?

Well, since they don't have arms, they wouldn't be playing games in the first place. I'm betting they'll just sit there and stare at each other. As for which would perform better in games, I'd go for the 9700M GT.

Depends on the games, if RTS or Strategy Games, which are generally less graphical demanding and more of a CPU hog, it will be a TIE , other games like FPS or any other kind of games, the 9700gt wins, ask me, i have SLI 7950GTX, if someone could be bottlenecked, then thats me.

bah, dont get your head filled up with thoughts mate :D a CPU will bottleneck in 2 Conditions in my opinion:

1)Playing RTS with 200+ Units on screed
2)Playing a Game like Crysis while all the ground is exploding and Everything is flying all directions.

which i dont think any of the above happen in Oblivion :D

Will I be able to play Far Cry 2 (at medium settings or so) if I invest in this laptop? I want something that can let me play games that come out in the next two years. By then, I would build my own desktop.

Probably yes, you will be able to, but as other people mentioned in other threads, you can get the gateway with 8800GTS , which will definately be able to play Farcry 2 and the upcoming intensive games, IE: Deadspace, Stalker: CLear sky.
