    Howdy,

I have been considering buying the Asus A8Jp or A8Js. Now asus has announced the A8Jr with the ati x2300 vid card. I realize not much is really known about it, but do you think it would be worth the wait and money if it does support DX10? I want my lappy to have some decent performance and to last a good long time. If DX10 will be important within the next year or two for gaming, I would rather not have a DX9 A8Jp or A8Js. Any ideas on the matter?

    Thanks in advance.

In other words no the A8jp/s will still have much better performance. If ATI uses the same numbering as they have in previous genrations the X2300=x1300 an admittedly poor performing card, for gaming that is. For more info look hear.

Your best bet is to wait for Asus to release the system with the x2300 and see what tests show, as there will be no way to know for sure how it will preform until someone tests it.

I don't agree with the users that have stated that the x2300 will be relative to the x1300 cards, because both Nvidia and ATI have made drastic changes to their chips/cards with this generation.

One of the big step ups in the new generation of cards includes Unified Shaders which can do a number of things that are leaps and bounds ahead of what is on the market as of now. (Intel has a good video/animation on thier website of what unified shaders can do, and how the currently generation are limited).

From what I have seen and heard to this point I believe the x2300 will provide a significant improvement over the ATI X1000 series and Nvidia 9x00 series cards. I would wait to see tests of the new cards (they shouldn't be too far away), and hold off buying for now.

(edit: it took some digging, but I found the animation I mentioned -why is it that it is never easy to find anything on Itel's website?)

That's true... unified shaders in the X2300 would be leaps and bounds above the X1k series, and so will the game reqs running DX10! :) Based on the numbering, the X2300 would more than likely be the "value-based" GPU in the X2k series, with the usual suspects X2400, X2600, and X2800 taking up the higher tiers.

Another thing to consider is will there be enough DX10 software to justify buying the A8Jr when it's out... if you will be spending more time playing DX9-based games, then just buy a laptop now.
