I'm thinking of buying the Asus F3SV, it has the NVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB, does anyone know whether i'd be able to upgrade my laptop with a better newer NVidia graphics card in say 1-2 years?

No you cant. The graphics card in on the mainboard and cant be replaced. Atleast not in the Asus F3. If you want something faster buy it now or upgrade to a new laptop in 1-2 years.

Thanks for your help, do you think the NVidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB will last me about 2 years of new games?

It will never be able to play the demanding games in high settings. But it should play most if not all games that come out in the next 2 years in lower resolutions and settings.

Not fully true- Apart from Crysis/ Lost Planet and other very demanding games(which would tax even the 8600GT), all other games released upto now would run pretty much maxed out. Even Lost Planet Demo runs pretty well on the F3Sv.

yeah, 3GB seems to be the sweet spot for Vista and Turbocache.

Framerates nearly doubled on the F3 and G1.

That was on being compared to a Stock G1S with 2 Gigs. And G1S showed a similar boost on being given 3 gigs. And that was FEAR. I am afraid that would probably not be the case on dx10 games. Nevertheless, the 8600GS is a pretty decent card. It just pales in comparison to the 8600GT.

    Very True.
Most likely, within the next 2 years, most games should be able to run at least on medium settings with decent frame rates.

It shouldn't be totally outdated that quickly in merely 2 years.
