I just got my first laptop which is an Asus G1. It came with Vista Home Premium. I just installed Tremulous, which is a free FPS based on quake3. I have been playing the game on my old desktop system and it works great but when I tried it out on the G1 I ran into problems.

Basically, like most fps, you move forward and back with the W and S keys, strafe left and right with the A and D keys and then use the mouse to point in the direction you want to move. When using both the included MX518 and a Logitech G5 with the latest SetPoint drivers, my character will not go straight. He always goes slightly to the left. The weird thing is that if I unplug the mouse and just use the touchpad, the character moves perfectly straight. But I can't use the touchpad realistically for fps, I need a mouse. I also tried disabling/enabling the touchpad while mouse was plugged in and it still happens.

Has anyone had a similar problem because I am out of ideas and google doesn't find anything to help.

It comes with a rebranded Logitech MX518. I also tried a Logitech G5 and a Logitech MX510. All my other mice are PS/2 and the laptop doesn't have any PS/2 ports. I am in the process of testing other games to see if they suffer from this problem as well.

Also, I will mention that I decided to scrap Vista so I am now running XP Pro SP2. And I did NOT install any drivers for mice or the touchpad during this install but both work fine other than this problem. I thought they might be conflicting or something is why I decided not to install them. Then I installed the Logitech SetPoint drivers and the problem is still there.

I'm starting to think it might just be this game, so I am in the process of installing all my games and testing them.

it might be the surface your mouse is on? might be something *weird* that keeps on moving the mouse slightly left... just throwing it out there

try it on difference surfaces, esp one where the color is definitely totally uniform all over?

I finally solved my problem. I needed to alter some config files that changed the in game HUD. If anyone else runs into this problem, pm me for the files you need.
