I am so happy to find this site. Maybe somebody has the answer. Asus G50VT came with Vista, and for my own reasons, I installed Win 7 Pro 64-bit.

All is well, but upon start or reboot or awake from hibernation, there is a HUGE LOUD HORRENDOUS BOOM noise. I know this was from the original Asus gaming software, and it was cute at first.

But now at 72 with an ailing wife, I cannot start this laptop at night--The boom wakes the dogs and the wife.

Q: anyone know what software I need to kill this beast?

An Asus owner thought it might be the Power4Gear program.

    Many thanks

I think it's a BIOS option. Enter BIOS and look for an option that allows quiet startup.

Hit F2 upon starting up and look for an option that says something similar to "POST Startup Volume" and you can set it to 0. I have mine on 1 and it's audible but no cannon blast.

Hi and welcome to NBR!! :)

As it have been said above, it should be a option in BIOS, check it out and let us know how it turns out for you :)

    Thank you ALL!
It was that simple. Enter BIOS and set post sound to No.

You would not believe how many emails exchanged with Asus tech over months have got me zero. Most had no idea what I was talking about.

You guys had the answer in hours.

    thanks!

Heh, you're welcome. The G50vt is a great machine.

I almost miss mine, mainly because of the cool OLED.

I miss my old G1's OLED (and that customized program thing that let you put whatever you want on the OLED. Giant OLED sized clock? Thank you very much)

don't really miss the boom though

I also have mine turned off. I wonder if ANYONE has it on/likes it. Not bashing the people who enjoys it. I'm just wondering if anyone does. :D

When I had my G50vt-X6, I kept it on. It mystified people who saw the POST.

You could actually replace the startup sound on that BIOS using mmtool. ;) ;) But don't do this if you care about bricking your machine, all G50 machines are probably well out of warranty at this point. It's not exactly a safe thing to be doing.

I just sold my G50 on eBay, but when I had it I left the sound on. I always let it sleep so rarely had to restart.
