I've made a few posts on here and a few other gaming sites, but I keep getting conflicting responses, and I can't make up my mind. Im interested in buying the Asus g53sw-a1 but im concerned about the gtx 460m card. The notebook will be used for school and gaming, mostly mmo's such as Rift. All everyone says is to get the Sager 8150 with the 6970 card, but its out of my strict $1500 price range. Can someone with some experience with either Asus G53/73sw models tell me if it will in fact be able to comfortably run a game as demanding as Rift in high+ detail. I just don't want to make this large of a purchase just to be crushed when I receive it, because it can't hold up. I know the 6970 is a better card but it just isn't an option at this point. Thanks in advance!

well the np8150 with the 6970m is 1500, if your budget is 1500 for all things (taxes + delivery) than you are sol.

I would get the FHD display, but be warned that the g53 is a huge laptop. I would compare it against a 17''.

Sorry, but Crysis 2 isn't really all that graphically intensive compared to Crysis 1. Could you upgrade the GFX on your Asus? If so, then don't worry about it :) If not, then consider getting a 8150 with GTX 460M right now, as you'll be able to switch the graphics card in the future.

Right now, the GTX 460M is more than adequate for most, if not all games.

I've heard that you can replace the gpu in Sager models which does sound pretty appealing. How hard is it to do? Is it something I could do myself, or would I have to get Sager to do it? Also, does anyone have any experience with the 8170? The I would probably be more interested in a 17" model as long as it's not a gigantic 17" like the Asus g73. Thanks for all your responses

Rift should be able to run on high setting's no problem. The notebook your looking at just got out of stock today on newegg :( (I was looking to buy it too). 560m is coming out soon, so I guess I'll just wait up a bit and see how that performs and changes the prices.

Check Pro-star.com. They are the cheapest I've been able to find for the 53sw-a1 @1404.0. Also if you call them they will give you a coupon code for an additional $30 off.

yes its quite easy, there was a video made by, I think, xoticpc of them installing the gpu.

btw a 6970m can be found new aftermarket for 500 bucks, so thats why we always insist on the get now what you want and think about upgrades latter if think its worth it

Damn If I were you, I would wait a bit to raise that budget, the difference in terms of price is small, but the power difference is quite great
