Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and I am having what I believe to be an issue with my G55VW. I recently noticed that when I play GTA IV my CPU and GPU are both hitting 88-89C for 2-3 minutes then hovering around 79-82C which seem a little high to me considering I haven't overclocked the 660M. The room themp is 21C. Any input is welcome.

I'm seeing many people reporting overheating like this recently. There's two things you can do.

    1. Clean out your fans and heatsink fins from dust.

    2. If that doesn't help you'll need to take it apart and do a repasting because your stock paste has worn out. If you have warranty left you should have Asus do it for you because it involves taking the whole thing apart thanks to their "brilliant" design.

    + 1

Clean vents first, even if you can purge a can of air through it would help, even if it looks kinda clean it might be clogged with dirt.

I blasted the vents with a can of air and it lowered idle temps maybe 1C on average. I am very hesitant to send it back to Asus because I need the laptop for my school work as it is my only computer. I am capable of putting new thermal paste on myself, but I obviously do not want to void my warranty (still has 8 months left on it). Is there by any chance I could manually manage the fan speed on this notebook via a program? I tried speedfan but it doesn't look like it will work.

88C first means your fans kick in way too late, other than that I had a g53sw which had 81-82C on average while gaming (Crysis 2 though)

Btw where are the air intakes for the laptop? Can't see them on any pictures. I know if i propped up my laptop I get better airflow usually dropping temps slightly (airtakes are on the bottom and air is exhausted through the back).

Also I assume your not running any overclocks at all? Also have you got the power settings for the card to be 'adaptive' not high performance so the card will only use the power necessary to achieve decent framerates.

You could also try capping the frame rate using vsync or vsync set to half the refresh rate (30fps).

My G53Sw would get up to 85 deg C playing many games, but vsync would drop it down to 78 or so.

Also, for some reason, I found that playing on my lap actually yielded better temps than playing on a flat surface.
