What Drivers are you guys running for your GPU, what temps are you getting?

and if you are overclocking, well what drivers and what are the clocks and temps.

Im haveing some flux with my GPU temp from normally around 62c, but it randomly will shoot up to 72c just browsing, its done this twice in one week.
(this is on "High Performance" with the "extreme turbo" mode on in power4gear hybrid.[not going to lie sounds like it should make a difference! but what is it really doing... minor overclocking of the processor?)

Playing the Sims 3, ill open HWMonitor really quick as soon as I exit the game and it'll be at only 82c which seems ok... Empire total war seems about the same maybe a little bit hotter.

I just want to put some info together for all that have this asus and have an idea on whats going on, what temps are normal or high and what everyone is doing with their laptops.

I don't have a GTX 260M, or the G60VX, but apparently the best NVIDIA drivers are either 186.82, or 186.81.

And about HWMonitor, leave it open during the game. It has a column that lists what the absolute maximum GPU temp was, so you can just check it after you leave the game. You wouldn't believe how quick these things can cool down in the space of seconds. My 3650 maxes out at 63C while playing a game, but if I do what you did and open HWMonitor after exiting the game I usually find its already fallen down to about 55C, or 53C.

You will probably find that the maximum GPU load temperature you will get is something like 89C or higher. The current Asus G series runs rather hot.

186.81 drivers are the coolest... however , if u don't mind 1-5C higher temps , get the latest 195.81 beta drivers...

I've had great luck with the 186.82's and my G51/260mGTX...and your temps sound fine. Mine idles anywhere from 52 on up to 76C, some websites and 2D apps kick it into higher clocks, nothing to worry about. Do make sure it's downclocking though, ie dropping to lower clocks at the desktop or idle. Run GPU-z 3.8 to check this.

And for max temps, when really pushed hard with Furmark, I'm in the 99-102C range depending on room temperatures. Games will push it to 95C+, is totally normal on the G series according to Asus and it does it on all of them, except for those who have taken fairly aggressive cooling mods.

Check the ASUS forums, there is a TON of great info there, and read through the G51 stuff too.. they have the same GPU and the same chassis, driver tips, etc.

Good luck, I have had great luck with mine and love it.

Alright thank you very much, i think i will go with the 186.81 first. I like cooler.

How would i go around Down loading these drivers, would i have to delete the older drivers then install it or does an exe. file do it by it self?

and where is a website i can trust in downloading these drivers?

Just go to the NVIDIA website. You will have to select you card model, and remember to select the GTX 200 M series - not the desktop cards.

You will need to uninstall your previous drivers via the Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Then afterwards run a utility called Driver Sweeper and clean out the remnants of the driver that you uninstalled.

Do not install the new driver until you have completely gotten rid of the old one - driver conflicts can cause BSOD's and other errors.

Also, check out the sticky in the forum for more information.

Nvidia only give me the options to DL 195.62 WHQL.... no the one you guys suggested...

    Try www.laptopvideo2go.com

CCleaner will not work to clean out the remnants of drivers, you will need Driver Cleaner, or Driver Sweeper (Free).

With laptopvideo2go drivers you may need to do the INF file thing, more information about that in the sticky.

    186.82

now my laptop idles at 50 - 52c!
(edit: its climbing to 69c before the fans kick it back down again... i guess that still better than before... ugh)

i havnt tried to see how it works with the sims and Empire total war but i hope its about the same!

im super happy so far, thanks for the help. ill post again soon and see if it does those random jups of temps like before.

what program should I use to benchmark and compare with other G60 users?

THANK YOU! ill keep posting so other searching for info on this issue can just use this instead of keep asking around! and if they need it ill pass on the info!

PS; the g60 260m comes underclocked. I wanna put it back up to stock clocks and see how the effects the temps/performance!

The temperature will go up when you play games, and don't worry if it gets up to 90C on this model, it's normal for the Asus G series.

Glad to know that you got the drivers installed correctly, and that you are having lower idle temps.

The program that everyone uses to benchmark is called 3DMark06, and you should get at least 10,000 points when you benchmark, if not more. Always benchmark at a resolution of 1280 x 1024.

    ok i will do that.

yeah its idles from 49c-69c goes up to 69c then the fan kicks it down to 49 then that cycles, while i am just browsing so thats normal? i thought a fan would keep a constant, idk 30% and keep it a good temp... not let it go up till a certain point then kick it so far down and repeat...

Mine used to do that. I don't know why it doesn't anymore, maybe because of the dust accumulation...

    DUST-OFF TIME =]

It wont let me run 3DMark06 because my laptop doesn't support that minimum resolution....

is there a diffrance between 3DMark06 vantage and 3DMark06 basic?

I think 3DMark Vantage is more of GPU based benchmarking one.

And dust off time will void my warranty...I have to take the whole top cover off to get to my fan. :(

VERY difficult. I think an even better solution would just be to stick something like a toothpick in the fan grate, to stop the blades from spinning, and then just blow air through the fan grate on the bottom of the laptop.

I just got my unit the other day and it's been happening to me as well. Read somewhere else (maybe these boards?) that it only does this when you have an external monitor hooked up. My own testing confirms this.

Doesn't really help or explain anything, but for what it's worth....

Try the below fix in the thread to fix all powermixer issues which cause high idling temps... this fix might be magical as it lowered in game temps for my laptops with OC by 10C... Link to thread below

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456313

Also if u want to OC GPU , use NVDIA system tools.
