    Hey,

I need to purchase a notebook by September 1st (college), right now I'm favoring the m50sv-a1(style, price, reasonable power) over the m1530(I like it, but the Asus catches my eye), and the Clevo M860TU (will probably be out of my price range, not very sexy )

The only thing holding me back is the GPU, unless you guys can convince me otherwise... I've read that it's GDD2 memory, how is the in game performance? heat? Is there a chance that any upcoming gpu's that will be in there by late august, specifically, a GDDR3 one?

The reason I'm asking is because I currently have an ATI X1950 GT which runs most games maxed out at 1280*1024 @ 50 fps or 1400*900 @ 30fps, with lows of 20fps abd highs of 49fps in Crysis @ 1280*1024|All High|Three medium and 3D Mark 06 scores ranging from 4200 to 4500 @ 1280*1024, depending on how many processes are running in the backround....

I sort of don't want to purchase a laptop that can't keep up/exceed that performance when I'm spending $1500+, If you understand where I'm coming from.

the 9500m gs struggles to hit oer 4k in 3dmark06, ati is coming out with some very powerful laptop gpu's, such as the 3 series dual GPU mobile card due out sometime

£1,550 got me my Alienware m15x (starts at £940, almost £600 to make it powerful) with 2.5ghz, 8800GTX (with an 8700GT you could save another £100), & 2gb of RAM, I just had to take the 160gb HD to save money (got a 500gb portable HD anyway :))you can do a lot better than 9500 GPU for that price.

EDIT: checked the m15x current prices:
    Silver Skullcap Design
    15.4" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p) with Clearview Technology
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1
    512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 8800M GTX
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 1024MB
Single Drive Configuration - 120GB 7200 RPM SATA
    8x Dual Layer Writer (DVD±RW, CD-RW)

    = £1491, bargain me thinks

    I won't buy until August.

Well if its anything remotely similar to PC Microworks Edge, I could buy it, but I wouldn't want to for $2000+ before taxes and shipping as well as any duty charges getting it into Ontario. I rather get an Asus/Dell for $1500 and buy a PS3 for $399 to use in one of those HDMI slots :p . That sounds more attractive than putting all of my eggs in one basket tbh.

I can tell you right now that £1500 pounds is closing in on at least $2600 Canadian without a conversion tool. Your quite lucky if your wages are similar to ours :)

I see you have the ATI HD 3650 1GB Asus, how is it? Rumors (from this site :p ) have it that it's real performance is similar to the GDDR3 8600M GT and that the 1GB of video ram is a ploy because the gpu is 128-bit and cannot utilize all of it. What do you think about this?

How does it really perform? :)

The yet to be released Compal JHL90 (aka Rizeon JHL90) with the 9600m GT may be an option as well.
