    Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong section, but here is my issue.
I have an ASUS G50VT-X5, its SATA controller went out. I purchased a ASUS N61VG-A2 that was on sale on Newegg. The issue is I am pretty sure the 9800m GS in the X5 is a better quality card than the 220m that is in the A2. I called ASUS and they said the 9800m should be compatible for my A2. The next part is what i need help on.
    1. The X5's graphics card is easily assessable by removing the bottom panel, it looks like i may have to take apart most of the A2 to get to its GPU. Is there an easy way to get this card out so i can replace it?
    2. Will the heatsink that is currently on the 220m work for the 9800m or and i going to have to find a way to put the 9800m's heat sink in the A2?
I've taken quite a few notebooks apart, i have a good deal of soldering and repair experience. But I have never disassembled an ASUS, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

I am not sure you can trust what ASUS customer service told you, but it seems to me that the 2 GPUs are not swappable. But I suppose you can always try.

Here is a very informative and detailed guide of how to dissemble a G50vt, including almost every major part. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...8551-asus-g50-notebook-disassembly-guide.html Can't help you with the N61VG there.

Regarding the heatsink, I have never seen a N61VG, but if the heatsink of N61VG could physically hold the 9800M GS, you should probably be fine, apply some new thermal paste and make sure the heatsink will make thorough contact with the GPU core.

Thanks for the link, but the G50 is simple to strip, this N61 is a bit more tricky, i don't quite see where the GPU is located.
