I have an old laptop Asus g53sx with a 3D vision. it works very well, I take care of it and clean it every six months with the replacement of thermal paste, and in general, I like it very much. Its characteristics allow me to play in Overwatch on the medium specs, league of legends at maximum performance and in Witcher 2 on the averages, too, felt confident.

Now the question. Is it possible to upgrade it? For example, is it possible to replace the GeForce 560m, which stands in it for something newer? RAM there 2x 8 GB DDR4, this is the only thing that I`ve upgraded.
In general, can you tell me if something can be improved and if possible, what new components would be best to use?

Looking at the motherboard of that machine I can see a MXM port so technically yes you can change the GPU to another ASUS branded GPU that the machine would have come with at top configuration and you won't run into compatibility problems that is assuming you get the strange ASUS MXM.

I would be extremely grateful if you suggested a few GPUs that are exactly compatible because I'm a full noob on a technical matter.

The problem is that the highest performing compatible GPU is your current GTX560m ... Any upgrade further is an experiment that you have to do on your own risk considering the chance of failure. This is the kind of form factor you are looking for https://www.ebay.com/i/272837134558?rt=nc , ASUS always makes it hard to upgrade with their strange PCB forms. I tried to do a bit of research but it just yields questions and not answers. No one was brave enough to upgrade that machine with a similar form GPU from another ASUS machine. You can be the first though :D

Thank you, so I should look for a GPU with the same connectors?
p.s. Is the GPU the only thing that could be replaced? For example, maybe a new processor will be easier to find?

if i remember correctly the MXM design on those Asus laptops are not standard and very hard to replace, much less upgrade

Not just the connector, the design of the board has to be the same. The connector is standard MXM 3.0b but the board design has to match, for spacing inside the chassis and heatsink design. Also, an ASUS card will have compatible bios.

Which processor do you have atm.?

I`m sorry, but I will be able to say you the exact specs only at evening when I would be at home, now I can only search it in Asus` site.
Also if it would help I can try to disassemble it and post some photos of it`s "inside".
The only thing I can be sure of is the sticker on the front of the laptop panel on which i7 inside is written.

No need to disassemble just get the exact processor model number from computer properties.

In theory you can upgrade to any other 2XXXQM or XM. But I checked online but it seems that the bios doesn't detect anything higher than the 2630QM. I believe your best option is to get a new machine or maybe upgrade to an SSD to make the system more snappy.

Hello again) My parent's agreed to give me some money for an upgrade. Now I'm trying to decide on the SSD. You mentioned that I need SATA-3. Now I have a question: what capacity of the drive will be optimal? The SSD that my brother promised me does not suit as it has a completely different connector - M.2 SSD.
The budget is limited and I can purchase either SSD 256GB + 8GB DDR4 ram, or only SSD 500+GB capacity.
How should I do better? I looked at several options, but, to be quite frank, I do not know how to proceed in this situation. I'm thinking about Kingston or Crucial https://www.bestadvisers.co.uk/ssds
As I can see both of them have the sata-3 connector but differs on write and read speed.
While Kingston has higher read speed, Crucial has higher write speed, are these differences worse attention?

usually any SATA-3 SSD will do ... the difference between a SSD and HDD is night and day in speeds even for the slowest of SSDs ... I would personally recommend a 256GB SSD + 8GB DDR3 ... Your machine doesn't support DDR4 so take care. When picking a SSD I always go for longevity over speed because I am not interested in super human speeds; I prefer the longer lifetime over that.

I would personally recommend https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01IAGSD5O/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IEEAGNRSTSTNO&colid=1M4C4F7SIZIQL&th=1 ... Cheap and effective.

Is your goal an increase in graphics settings/FPS? If so, an SSD will not help much. It will be great for load times, but if you want to improve FPS then you'll need to upgrade the GPU.

A CPU upgrade can help with increasing FPS in 1080p resolution... but that's provided you get a decent bump up in clock speeds.
Aside from that, best way to increase FPS is to upgrade the GPU.
Your current GPU (if I'm reading the specs of the laptop correctly) is 560M.
Try looking through this ROG thread... it might give you some insights:
    https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?41182-G53SX-upgradable-to-a-770-or-780M/page3

But it looks like it might be a real pain to upgrade.

Plus, the 780m (even if the MXM interface is compatible) is relatively pricey.
It might be easier/better to just get a laptop with GTX 1060 or RX 580.

I’m sorry man but this is a Fools errand. Trying to update/upgrade any Asus laptop just doesn’t work really well. Asus uses locked down BIOS and hence the **** CPU support and hey use a crappy non standard custom MXM card for nearly every single laptop they release. They do his on purpose to force consumers to trash their expensive laptops and buy new.

Sell the laptop for whatever you can get for it and buy any modern day bargain bin gaming laptop. It will be far superior and won’t break the bank.

Thanks for the advice. About what to update the GPU and the processor is not possible we have already found out with @MahmoudDewy.
I do not want to sell it. Performance in general suits me, because in the games I need, albeit not at the maximum parameters, I play without friezes and with normal FPS. I was wondering whether it is possible to upgrade it exclusively in the sporting interest - it will work out - well, it will not work out - I will not be upset. At least I already found out what can be done thanks to you. I've already ordered an SSD and RAM. (I'm sorry, I was sure that I have DDR4 worth, after checking your words - it really DDR3 2x4GB).
I understand that it's much better to sell it and buy a new one, but I can not part with 3D. A new laptop with 3D support will cost an unreal lot for me.
As a small report - yesterday I ordered.
    -Crucial SSD 256GB
    -2xDDR3 4GB
-New battery, since the old one died and the laptop worked only while charging.

Everything will arrive in a week, so I'll keep you posted :)
