    Whats up people-
I have a ASUS laptop- g73j and in it is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 card. If I hook the laptop to a 3d enabled projector- is it possible to achieve 3d?

I have talked to asus - they said no but he mentioned the feature locked out in the laptop and hinted i could get into some files and change that. And I see that the ati radeon 5xxx is now 3d enabled....so im very confused right now. Answers much appreciated.

    Thanks guys,

    Mike

The 5870M does not support 3D.

It's most likely locked out in the driver/CCC package. You could always try some modded desktop drivers and see if you can get anything to work.

Hi. Welcome to NBR. Those of us with the first gen of the Envy 17 3D discussed this issue. What we have the HD 5850. What is going on withe the 5xxx series is the card has HDMI 1.3 This limits its output to 3D on the actual laptop display. For external 3D devices, you will need HDMI 1.4 support which the HD 6xxx series provides! ;) Many of us are returning our Envy 17 3D because we just found out the Envy 17 3D and Envy 17 will get the new Sandy Bridge chips with a rebranded Radeon HD Mobility 6850 which now has HDMI 1.4a support.

IMHO, don't get 3D stuff. Proved scientifically, 3D is the "best" brain-cells assassin. Aswell your eyes' murderer.

But still, it's up to you, if you want to risk it or not.

The AMD 6000M series cards introduce 3D (HM3D) its just like Nvidias stereoscopic 3d tech.

Asus also has 3D displays directly on the laptop now for select models.
