Exactly what is the 9700m GT supposed to be the 8-series successor of? The naming for the new 9 series isn't always consistent with that of the 8 series.

maybe the 8800m gts, the 8xxx series gpu's always seem to have a higher number than their 9xxx series counterpart so i don't think it's the 8700m gt but I don't know.

The 9500gs is the equivalent of a 8600gt but I was under the impression that the 9600 and 9650 (read that somewhere seems weird cuz the 9600 isnt out how could it be a refresh?) were also very similar to the 8600gt also. I have always been able to keep up with the Nvidia's names until now... I mean now the "x"600 series (9600gt in this case) on the desktop is 256-bit whereas before it was always mid-range 128-bit.

They say on Fudzilla that the 15.6" will only support 800mhz RAM, shouldnt it also support 1066mhz ram? (it comes with the new intel Platform..)
Or did they just write it "wrong" and it only comes with 800mhz, but supports 1066 too?

probably 1066mhz bus, 800mhz ram. between two sticks of memory, you can saturate the bus.

Am I the only one that noticed that the article said "3D 15.6" screen"? They said it was the new kind that didn't require glasses and looks amazing. That alone is amazing in a notebook. BTW, the 9650M GS is the 8700M GT and the 9650M GT is the 8800M GTS. The 9700M GT is either a completely new card or the 8800M GTX.

So according to this it will be a g96 chip which is basically a a 9650M with (probably) better clocks. So if it has the performance of a 8800M GTS then it will be a sweet 15" gaming lappy.

    http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Nvidia_55nm_Mobile_Graphics_Cards_Unveiled/5705.html

Wouldn't get my hopes to high. G96 is 65nm G84 (8600M GT), the G94 is the 9600GT, G94b and G96b are 55nm chips. Of course there is nothing official in that but it follows what was announced this week

EDIT: He posted it before me =/. G96 chips are 128bits nevertheless though. Looks like the 9800M GTS= 9600GT.

I'm looking forward to see it. The 8700M is the 9650M GS, we have the 9600M GT, 9650M GT, 9700M GS and 9700M GT based on the same chips that will be better
    so...

@Micheals: The 9650M GT might be as strong as the 8800M GTS, but it is not a renamed one.
